Palmilla Beach Resort & Golf Club - Golf Community ReviewNestled in the dunes on the outskirts of the historic Texas beach town Port Aransas is one of the best golf courses and soon to be best golf communities in Texas - This master planned golf community by Koontz McCombs, a San Antonio based real estate firm, offers great amenities and incorporates sophistication with elegance and beauty creating an irresistible resort and golf community along the Gulf Coast. The grand vision for this master-planned community encompasses the beach, bay, marina access, and one of the best golf courses in Texas.
Palmilla Beach Resort and Amenities
What was formally known as Newport Dunes and consisted of some premier land, an excellent golf course, and a pro shop in a trailer was purchased by Koontz McCombs in March 2013 and they immediately started making a significant investment in improvements. First up was:
- a new Pro Shop that features 1000 square feet of golf gear and equipment
- a resort style swimming pool
- the Black Marlin Bar & Grill - a new restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor dining
- a three level structure with a bar, tables and chairs, and a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Mexico on the third floor
- a stage and lush green lawn that will host a variety of outdoor events
- private dune crossover for direct beach access
The Black Marlin Grill offers a variety of cuisine some of which includes: mahi-mahi grilled tacos, pan seared gulf snapper and shrimp as well as beef tenderloin sliders. The inside bar is comfy and casual and the outdoor stage has already hosted several music events.
Palmilla Beach Resort currently offers 75 single family home sites, some of which will overlook the golf course. In December 2014 a number of home sites had already been sold and 4 spec homes (3 and 4 bedroom homes ranging from 2500 to over 2800 square feet) were under construction. The architectural style promises to mix the influences of classic American coastal cottages with diverse European inspiration.
Construction had also started and was nearing competition on 18 condominiums (40% of which were under contract) that are open floor plans with one to three bedrooms, high-end finishes, and state of the art appliances.
With approximately 700 acres, the development plans call for Palmilla Beach Resort to continue to evolve over time with the addition of:
- a "casually elegant" hotel with more than 100 rooms, 5000 square feet of conference center space, plus fine and casual dining
- a marina
- beachfront and marina hotel sites
- additional residential sites
- four bedroom casitas
- restaurants, retail, and much more
The goal is to enhance Port A's natural charms and reputation as an affordable beach destination. You can learn more about Palmilla Beach Resort by watching this video.
Palmilla Beach Golf Club
The showcase of this Port Aransas golf community and resort is the award winning 18 hole Arnold Palmer designed Palmilla Beach Golf Course. Wow, what a spectacular course that is a modern interpretation of a classic links style course complete with 15 to 25 foot dune formations, steep and deep sand traps, wide fairway and green contouring, and ample swales and pot bunkers.
The layout traverses over, up and down, and through the windswept dunes and past coastal native floras, rare and endangered seaside plants, and the rich greens of seashore grass. Palmilla Beach Golf Club is the only ocean side golf course in Texas and the views of the Gulf of Mexico from a couple holes are impressive.
With 5 sets of tee boxes and yardages ranging from 4680 to 6821, Palmilla Beach is not that long and it's fair for all skill levels but it offers a variety of challenges like very deep bunkers, forced carries, dog legs, water hazards, rolling contoured fairways, Gulf breezes, and plenty of natural grass areas that will devour your ball if you miss the wide sweeping fairways.
