If you're heading to the New Braunfels area for either a summer vacation or as a winter Texan or just to spend some time having fun, then you need to check out Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort.  This is the perfect RV Resort to park your rig, enjoy the Park's amenities, and explore the local area. And if you don't have an RV or more friends are joining you, then the Cottages are a great choice and much better than a small cramped hotel room with $15 breakfasts.

Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort is nestled on 32 rural acres near the south end of New Braunfels, Texas.  This popular resort is located one block east of IH-35, making it a short dash to local attractions such as Schlitterbahn, the local rivers, historic Gruene  and just minutes from Wimberley, San Antonio and Austin.

You can enjoy all the amenities year round including the  new Great Lodge and outdoor pool that opened in 2014. For your pleasure there are 2 indoor heated pools and hot tubs, 3 laundry facilities, guess fitness center, pool and ping pong tables, horseshoes, outdoor playground, and Game Zone. All RV sites are full hook-up including cable and there are over 80 cottages for rent (nightly, weekly and monthly). They have one room units as well as spacious one and two bedroom cottages with full kitchens and each is fully furnished for your convenience, welcoming you with a private porch, picnic table, and a BBQ pit.

The sovereignty felt staying in one of their cottages is guaranteed to be the perfect alternative to staying at a hotel.  Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort is a dog friendly resort.  The facilities are smoke-free indoors throughout the park.

This is both a retiree and family friendly park and the staff is very courteous and helpful and seems committed to making sure your stay at Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort is enjoyable.

With all that Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort has to offer, it's not surprising to us that the Resort won TripAdvisor's "Certificate of Excellence" in 2014.  And the Resort is also on Texas Outside's list of the Best RV Resorts in Texas.

Amenities and Fun Things To Do:

Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort has over 300 sites, some of which are dedicated to monthly rentals.  All of the sites have full hook-ups with 30/50 amp, sewer, and free wifi and cable.  Most of the sites are very level and have have patios and picnic tables.  There is ample room to maneuver the big rigs and the roads are paved and most of the sites are spacious, some up to 30' wide. Sites are a mixture of heavily to partially shaded. For you tent campers, there are tent sites with water and electricity.  Most of the sites have a gravel parking pad and a cement patio with a picnic table.

If you are tired of staying in expensive but small hotel rooms with mediocre service and limited amenities, then you should book one of the cottages (new in 2008 to  2010) at Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort. The one and two bedroom cottages are available for rent on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The cottages will sleep from five to ten people and most of the cottages have a  queen bed in the downstairs bedroom, a sleeper sofa in the living room, and an upstairs loft with two double mattresses that the kids will love. Be aware that the loft is only three and a half feet tall and may not be suitable for older kids or adults.

The cottages are fully furnished - linens, towels and kitchen utensils, coffee maker, full sized refrigerator, stove and oven, toaster, and a microwave. The living area has a breakfast table with 4 chairs and a TV. The outside deck is perfect for sipping a cup of coffee or a cold drink. If you want to BBQ, there is a grill outside near the deck. Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort is in the process of adding additional and larger cottages.

On our last visit in 2014, we stayed in a two bedroom, two bath cottage that with a queen in each bedroom and two sleeper sofa couches in the living room.  The cottage was clean and well stocked - a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

In addition to a great location and some good RV sites and lots of cottages, Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort is loaded with amenities to make your stay enjoyable. Some of the amenities include:

  • two indoor heated swimming pools and hot tubs and a sauna
  • an outdoor pool with water features and a hot tub
  • an exercise room with a lot of equipment
  • a game room with a pool table, shuffleboard, and a unique ping pong table, video games, and more
  • shaded areas with BBQ grills, tables, and chairs for get togethers or reunions
  • two large recreation halls with kitchen facilities for meetings, social gatherings, and special events
  • free computer for guest use
  • a country store with a little bit of everything from ice and ice cream to food staples and RV supplies plus beer
  • two fenced dog runs
  • a new large hall for weddings, reunions, or retreats
  • sand volleyball court and horseshoes
  • three laundry rooms all with washers and dryers
  • and the kids will love the jumping pillow, jumping pad, the playscape, and trampoline

Some of the other things we liked about Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort are the availability of the Wall Street Journal and USA Today delivered each week day, the several fun planned events through out the year, and the clean and spacious bath houses with several individual bathrooms with showers

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

When you stay at Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort, in addition to enjoying all of their amenities, there are tons of things to see and do that the entire family will enjoy. We love to play golf and you've got lots of excellent choices when you stay at Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort - check out this golf map to find a near by course.  Every time we visit, we've got to play The Bandit which is nearby and it's rated as one of Texas Outside's Best Texas Public Courses.

On our most recent visit to Hill Country Resort, we came down for Wurstfest and loved it - read about our Fun Weekend with golf, excellent music, good food, and lots of beer which also has a link to our review of Wurstfest.

If the horses are running its fun to zip down to Retama Park to see if we can win enough money to pay for our site or a dinner.

We had a blast tubing down the Comal River's clear, cool, and deep water.  This calm ride does include three fun chutes to add a little excitement to the trip.

After tubing in the morning, we took the grandkids to Texas Ski Ranch - a cable wakeboard park plus a trampoline park - and they had a blast.  Click on this link to Texas Ski Ranch to learn more.

For nightlife it's hard to beat the piano bar at AJ's Ale House or the music and good times at Poor Haus - which is rated "the best bar in New Braunfels."

Texas Outside Favorite Sites: All of the sites are pretty similar, so we like to get a pull through site that is near the pool. There are also two adjoining sections of Hill Country Cottage and RV Resort, we prefer the section nearest the office. The sites are a little smaller but they are well shaded. The Cottages closest to the pool are our favorites.

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
