Amenities and Fun Things To Do:

Splashway Waterpark has around 120 RV sites that are all full hook-up with 30 and 50 AMP, water, and sewer.  About half of the sites are long pull throughs with limited to no shade.  The rest of the sites are back-in and tucked under lots of trees.   Each site has a picnic table and firepit.  The parking pads are a mixture of grass, dirt, and gravel and all of them are very level.  The hook-ups are conveniently located near the middle of each site.

The 22 tent sites are level and include water and electric, picnic table, and a firepit. And they are less than a minute walk to the campground entrance to the waterpark

In addition to RV and tent sites, Splashway Waterpark has 34 cabins and cottages for rent.  The 19 cabins are perfect for a larger family or a group of up to 8.  The cabins have a master bedroom with a queen bed, bathroom with a tub and shower, full kitchen (microwave, oven and range, full sized refrigerator, pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster, and more), loft with 2 queen mattresses and 2 twin mattresses, a living area with a bar type table and 4 stools, couch, and a flat screen TV.  There is also a great screened in patio with a table and 4 chairs plus a picnic table and fire pit.

The 15 cottages are smaller one room wooden cottages with twin bunk beds and a twin bunk over a double bed.  The kitchen has a microwave, mini refrigerator, coffee pot, and sink.  Each of the cottages also has a flat screen, bathroom and shower, small patio, picnic table, and firepit

The cabin we stayed in seemed new and was very clean and well maintained.  Linens are not provided but they can be rented from the office. The cabins and cottages are an easy 2 to 5 minute walk to the entrance of the waterpark.

In addition to the RV sites, tent sites, and cabins and cottages, some of the other amenities you can enjoy include:

  • two lakes for catch and release fishing
  • kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, and pedal boats for rent
  • 2 sand volleyball courts and a basketball court
  • a large fenced-in dog park
  • nature trails
  • on site trash service
  • corn hole boards plus two horseshoe pits
  • two playscapes
  • clean and well maintained private restrooms and showers

In addition to all of that there is a waterpark with lots of fun rides, a lazy river, pool, wave pool, and plenty of things for the younger kids.  There are two different places to order food (pizza, dogs, chicken strips, burgers, and more) and treats and drinks and the gift shop has plenty of souvenirs for you to take home.  There are lots of lounge chairs and picnic tables plus BBQ grills and cabanas (with wait service) that you can rent.  The  zipline tour takes you zipping back and forth  from platform to platform above the waterpark.

On the weekends the campground is always alive with some type of activity sponsored by Splashway - s'mores to movies to cooking contests to arts and crafts to live music and lots more.

Pricing is reasonable and there are a wide variety of packages and specials.  If you're going to enjoy the waterpark for a couple days, the Season Pass is a good deal and includes a lot of extras and additional discounts (ie, on camping, the zipline, or cabana rentals)

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

We brought our five grandkids and stayed in one of the cabins (they loved all sleeping together in the loft) for a night.  It only took a couple minutes for them to get into their bathing suits and start running toward the entrance of the water park where we spent the entire day enjoying all of the rides.  Part of what makes Splashway special is that the vast majority of the rides can be enjoyed by everyone and there are lots of slides and things for the younger kids.

We rented a cabana - a great way to go! - which had a table and chairs, lounge beach chairs, a safe, a call box to order food and drinks, and a wait staff that was very attentive!  A really fun day at Splashway Waterpark.

After the park closed we drove 20 minutes to Columbus and enjoyed a great meal at Nancy's Steakhouse - good steaks, a salad bar, and reasonable prices.

Cool Nearby Activities:

Sheridan is kind of out in the middle of nowhere - but that doesn't matter, you came here to camp and enjoy the waterpark!  Columbus and Hallettsville are each about 20 minutes away but neither is loaded with lots of fun things to see and do.  There are a few 9 hole golf courses around - see this golf map to find one.  Shiner and the Shiner Bock Brewery are only 30 minutes away.  Within an hours drive you can find lots to see and do.

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
