Telluride Lodging - Mountain Lodge at Telluride

Mountain Lodge at TellurideAs part of a really fun vacation to Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, we enjoyed a three day stay in Telluride and absolutely fell in love with Telluride. What a beautiful town loaded with great restaurants, unique houses, colorful and friendly locals, and lots of fun things to see and do during the summer as well as the winter.

And if you're heading to Telluride, we can highly recommend Mountain Lodge at Telluride as a perfect place to stay. After spending some time at Mountain Lodge, it's not surprising to us that they won several awards and accolades some of which include: TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2013 and Top 50 Ski Hotels in North America from Condé Nast Traveler Reader's Choice. We spent three nights there and here's what what we really liked and why we would highly recommend Mountain Lodge at Telluride:

  • the rooms are comfortable, clean, and have everything you need for an enjoyable stay
  • the service is friendly, courteous, and out to make sure you are well taken care of and have a memorable stay
  • the location is perfect and the views are stunning
  • the restaurant serves some good food
  • the amenities are good and the rates are affordable

As soon as we arrived at Mountain Lodge at Telluride we were overwhelmed with a friendly staff who politely welcomed us, wanted to take our bags, park our car, and get us settled into our room. We're not used to such first class service and we felt like royalty. Then we walked into the lobby and foyer and the jaws dropped - tall peaked ceilings, huge wood logs giving it a mountain chalet look, an immense river rock fireplace, rustic and warm mountain feel with rich leather and a Western elegance, stunning pictures of the area, a beautiful view of the pool and towering San Juan mountain peaks, and quaint bar where we immediately sat down and had a delicious Bloody Mary and cold beer before heading to our room. What a great way to start a vacation in Telluride.

View of the building our Condo was inAll of the buildings are wood and stone and blend in beautifully with the surroundings. Our condo was equally as impressive. When we opened the front door we couldn't wait to sit on the balcony and watch the sunset over the mountains - don't get that opportunity in Texas! Our 950 square foot condo had a small but comfortable living area with a fireplace, two bedrooms, and a fully-equipped kitchen. The living area had a comfy leather sleeper sofa and leather chair, a great view of the mountains, and a fireplace. The kitchen was very well stocked with a large refrigerator, toaster, blender, coffee maker, four burner stove and an oven plus everything we needed to cook a gourmet meal - which we never did! Each of the bedrooms were well appointed and had their own bathroom, sitting chair, and flat screen. The master, which we immediately set our bags in, had a fireplace, a soft comfortable bed, and huge bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. Oh and I forgot to mention a nice view which as I was standing by the window admiring the view, I noticed that the gondola into Telluride goes right by our room and a gondola full of people had a nice view of my bare bottom as I was getting dressed! A concierge service, grocery shopping service, free shuttle, and daily housekeeping are some nice touches typically not found in resorts of this type.

French toast for breakfastThe View, appropriately named based on the picturesque view of the pool and towering San Juan mountain peaks in the background, serves tavern type food with a high end flare - a hearty breakfast with choices like Eggs Benedict, breakfast burrito, or French toast and pancakes; lunch with burgers and sandwiches; and dinner items like salads, pastas, fish, and flat iron steak. The staff was outstanding - outgoing, friendly, and attentive. And the view while you're dining is jaw dropping.

We kept saying that we need to find some time (which we never did) to enjoy the pool and a long soak in the hot tub which would have helped my back that was sore from 36 holes of golf, an ATV ride on some mountain trails, and a bumpy but fun jeep tour up to the top of a snow covered 13,000 foot peak! After all that I didn't think that I needed to spend any time in the Mountain Lodge fitness center and steam room but I know I would have loved a nap in the cool mountain air swinging in their hammock and really would have enjoyed any of the many services at the Spa! Next time we plan to stay a little longer.

Mountain Lodge at Telluride was a perfect location for us. It's located midway up Telluride Ski Mountain and within a 3 minute walk you can be on the gondola which will take you to Mountain Village where you can stay for food, drinks, or fun or board the gondola that continues up the mountain to a wonderful place for dinner (Allreds Restaurant) and then on down a steep peak into downtown Telluride. What a fantastic way to travel - no need to worry about drinking and driving, having to find a parking spot, or getting lost! One evening we jumped on the gondola, stopped at Mountain Village and listened to a couple of the bands playing at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival which was starting that Thursday, had a couple cold drinks on the outside patio at Tomboy Tavern, and then got back on the gondola toward Telluride for a stop for dinner at Allreds. What a fun, scenic, and good time. And riding the gondola you usually get to meet some other friendly folks as well as find out more about Telluride and things to do.
