Austin Steam Train

Cedar Park

Take a step back in time as you ride the rails through the Texas Hill Country!  Cross the South San Gabriel River on the wooden trestle bridge, wind your way through Short Creek Canyon and through the countryside on board our vintage excursion railroad.  The all-volunteer staff will make sure your trip is memorable for years to come with their outstanding service and extensive railroad knowledge.

The Austin Steam Train Association runs excursion trains, pulled by a 1960 Alco diesel “alligator” locomotive, weekends from Cedar Park.  The most popular trip is the Hill Country Flyer to Burnet, with spring and fall trips available.  You can also ride the Bertram Flyer, a shorter excursion to a fully restored 1912 train depot, or one of the summer Twilight Flyers, taking in a meal and the view from the train after dark.  The ever popular North Pole Flyers and Twilight Murder Mystery trains sell out quickly, so be sure to book early!  They also host an annual Day Out With Thomas event in September at our depot in Burnet, Texas.  With so many options, we’re sure you will find a ride to enjoy.

Plus they offer special event rail rides like The Polar Express, Pumpkin Patch Express, or the Long Ranger Train Ride. These special trains pay tribute to America's most beloved western heroes or Peanuts in a couple different theme rides. Or take a 30 minute ride with a full size Thomas the Tank Engine or enjoy meeting a full-sized replica of The Little Engine That Could. Kids will love it! Read our our Pumpkin Patch Express Ride.
