Brief Overview:
Pecan Park is 2.5 miles from San Marcos and IH 35 and is nestled in the pecan trees on 19 acres with access to the San Marcos River. This is a quiet and peaceful campground that offers a lot of amenities. Visit their site and check out their pictures and the virtual tour of the campground.

This park is owned by the Jim and his son David Rowley two of the nicest and friendliest people you can ever expect to meet and they are dedicated to making sure that your visit at Pecan Park is enjoyable and memorable. They have recently made a number of improvements to Pecan Park, with lots more to come.

Amenities and Fun Things To Do:
100_5056Pecan Park has 100 sites with a mixture of back-in and pull throughs and the majority of the sites are beneath the pecan trees. Each site is level, fairly spacious, and has: an 8' by 20' concrete patio; 20,30, or 50 amp service; sewer; picnic tables; and water. The owners are planning on building some cabins in the park in 2007.

One of the advantages of Pecan Park is all the other amenities and things to do in the Park, some of which include: indoor heated pool; ladder golf (a very fun and easy game the whole family will love); basketball court; 9 hole disc golf course; activity center with jukebox, book exchange, pinball, stove and sink, and TV; 70 TV channels; free wireless; laundry room; clean restrooms; and hot showers.

Pecan Park provides easy access to the San Marcos River which is one of the most scenic and popular recreational rivers in Texas. The crystal clear San Marcos River is excellent for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, or fishing. There are plans to improve the trail along the river, add better access to the water, build a dock , and other improvements. You can rent canoes or kayaks from TG Canoe Livery which is on the property.

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

We love the San Marcos river and all it has to offer, which means we'll spend most of the day tubing, swimming, and enjoying the river. There are plenty of places to rent tubes, canoes, or kayaks. For a list of nearby tube rentals go the the Tubing Section of Texas Outside or check out this site for info on the San Marcos river. Pecan Park has easy access to the river for swimming or fishing.

We are also big fans of disc golf and we love ladder golf, both of which are available at Pecan Park. We own two sets of ladder golf which travel with us and get used on every trip and provide hours of fun - you can buy your own set here)

It's hard for the shoppers to pass up the opportunity to visit the 3rd Best Place to Shop in the world - Prime Outlets - as seen on ABC's "The View". While some of the party are shoping, you can take advantage of plenty of great golf courses within 30 miles. You can easily find them using the Texas Outside Golf Locator Map for either San Marcos or Central Texas. One of our favorites is The Bandit.

We will usually head over to the San Marcos Square for restaurants and nightlife at some fun and lively spots.

Cool Nearby Activities:
Pecan Park is an excellent location for exploring central Texas. Head north 30 miles to enjoy Austin. Click here to find things to see and do in Austin or read some of the Thank God For Weekends articles about some of Texas Outside's trips to Austin and nearby locations. You can have some fun in San Marcos; enjoy lots of things to do in New Braunfels; and if you haven't visited San Antonio you only have to drive 30 minutes to get to one of the most popular tourist cities in Texas. If you like country music, then you can't say you've experienced Texas until you go to Gruene and enjoy the food at Grist Mill or Grunene River Grill and music at the oldest dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall which is a Texas Outside Favorite. A couple blocks from Gruene Hall is the Guadalupe River and a couple places to rent tubes for floating the Guadalupe. Go to Texas Outside's Discover Texas to find out more about each of the cities and what else there is to do nearby. You should be able to find something for everyone to enjoy when you stay at Pecan Park.

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
