Texas Outside Favorite Sites: Latigo 2 bedroom cabin and campsite #1
Brief Overview:
Skytraq's Resort sits on a very pretty 6.6 acre lot with 100 feet of waterfront on the 25,000 acre Lake Palestine. The property is on the southwest side of Lake Palestine and is covered with tall pines, dogwoods, oaks, and wildflowers. The cabins and RV sites are on top of a small hill with a gentle slope to the Lake - the owners purposely wanted to leave 200 feet of waterfront open for all the quests to enjoy.
Amenities and Fun Things To Do:
Skytraq's Resort has six rental units and six RV sites. Tents are allowed but only when accompanied by an RV. Some of the RV sites and cabins have views of the water. The deluxe cabin "Sweets" is a duplex with one side having a one bedroom that sleeps six and the other side is a two bedroom that sleeps 8. There are four Park Model "Cottages", all of which are one bedroom and sleep between 4 to 6 people. The deluxe Park Model has two room units with a screened porch between the two units. The "Tuscany" unit has one bedroom and a loft for kids. All of the cabins are well equipped with dishes, pots and pans, coffee pot, and linen. The units are air conditioned, some have a gas fireplace, and all have a satellite TV, picnic table, and outside grill. Three of the four units are new units put in service in 2006. The RV sites are full hook-ups and include picnic tables and grills or fire rings. The pull through sites are fairly level with white river rock pads. Some of the other amenities at Skytraq's include: dock/pier for fishing, boat ramp, peddle boat, volleyball court, dodgeball court, and horseshoes. Horse lovers and kids will enjoy feeding or petting the horses at the entrance to the park. Pets are allowed, in fact, one of the units has a doggie door. The owners, Lynn and Pete deVoogdt are very friendly and will go out of their way to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. As new owners, Lynn and Pete have invested a significant amount of money on improvements over the last year and have a number of other improvements planned for 2007.
A Typical Texas Outsider Day:
A typical day at Skytraq's is spent relaxing, enjoying the peace and quiet, swimming, fishing from the dock or shore, or sitting on the bank with a good book. Skytraq's does have a boat ramp, so bring the boat and fish or cruise the lake. You can read more about Lake Palestine by clicking here. Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”. Each park is rated on:
- Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
- Park Condition: the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
- Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
- Campsites: low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
- Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
