Brief Overview: Parkview is located across the Frio River from Garner State Park and has very good access to the cool, clear, and deep water of the Frio River. The river is lined with huge cypress trees and the water is a beautiful shade of jade green. In this country setting it is commonplace to see deer, turkey, and other wildlife wandering around the park. We have not yet had the opportunity to stay at this Park, as such this review is based on talking to some people, reading some reviews, and other input. From all indications, the Park is clean, very well maintained, and the staff is hospitable and helpful. We have rated the Park an 8 until we have a chance to visit and formally review Parkview Riverside. If you have Passport America, you can save some money when you stay here. Parkview Riverside is very popular during the summer months, so make a reservation early. ATTENTION WINTER TEXANS - Parkview Riverside is a Winter Texan's Paradise with moderate temperatures, plenty to do, and low off season rates. Fall and winter are fantastic seasons to revel in the region's sprawling hills, streams, and wooded areas where wildlife abounds. Bird enthusiasts from around the globe are drawn to this region during late winter through spring to witness birds making their annual migration. The permanent bird population is impressive with hundreds of species prevalent year round. The fall and winter weather is perfect for hiking, biking, and relaxing along the banks of the river. Plus, from Labor Day to Memorial Day, Parkview Memorial is offering a coupon which is good for one month is free with every 3 month stay! Amenities and Fun Things To Do: Sites 1 to 25 sit on a bluff 20 to 30 feet above the river, affording excellent views of the river and Old Baldy Mountain. To help you enjoy the view, Parkview has added a sewer connection on each side of the site, giving you the option to back-in or pull-in to take advantage of the view from within your rig. Most of the sites are over-sized, spacious, and offer views of the beautiful hill country. One of the reasons to stay at Parkview is to enjoy the beautiful Frio River. The Park is about 400 yards downstream from a dam, so the water is always clear, clean, and about 15 feet deep - excellent for swimming, tubing, paddleboating, fishing, or just chillin' on the shore. It is easy to get to the river from three different access points. Some of the other amenities of this great park include:
A Typical Texas Outsider Day: You need to come here to get away from the hustle and bustle, relax, and enjoy nature. What a great place to spend some time with family or friends or meet some fellow campers. The Frio River is excellent for swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, toobing, or just sitting on the bank with a good book. Parkview has tube rentals and a shuttle service if you want tube the river. Next door to the Park you can also rent paddleboats. Star Rentals, a quarter mile down the road rents kayaks and tubes. If you are a hiker, then Garner State Park has some outstanding hiking trails (trail map). One trail leads to the top of Old Baldy with excellent panoramic views of the surrounding country side. Garner State Park rents paddleboats and kayaks and has a miniature golf course. Some other things to do include: go for a horseback ride through the hills, call Elm Creek Stables in Concan 830-232-5365; or get some exercise and enjoy the scenery by biking the back country roads.
Cool Nearby Activities: About an hour west is Kicapoo Cavern State Park. Public access is limited to scheduled tour dates, which showcase the area's great bird diversity, a primitive cave experience, and a chance to view thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats emerging near dusk. Check the website or call the park for reservations - 830 563-2342 Garner State Park is adjacent to Parkview Riverside and offers hiking and other activities.
