Brief Overview:
Padre Palms is located about 15 minutes south of downtown Corpus at the end of a small residential street that ends at Corpus Christi Bay. With convenient access to the freeway, Padre Palms is a good place to stay if you want to explore Corpus, the beaches, the National Seashore, or take a short drive to Port Aransas.

The park facilities are a little dated but very clean, the service is country friendly, the sites are side by side, and the sites and roads are paved. A few palm trees offer limited shade to some of the sites.

Amenities and Fun Things To Do:
Img_0088Padre Palms has 80 RV sites with paved level concrete pads, 30 or 50 AMP service, and water. Most of the sites are pull throughs of about average length with a small concrete patio, picnic table, and grill. Like most other RV parks the sites are side-by-side and most of the Padre Palms sites have a small grassy area.

Although Padre Palms is not right on the Corpus Christi Bay, some sites can see the bay and it is a short walk out the back gate to a 450' public fishing pier. Some of the other amenities at the Park include:

  • swimming pool
  • horseshoe pit and two shuffleboard courts
  • large BBQ grill
  • rec hall with a kitchen, board games, TV, and exercise equipment
  • free cable TV
  • Wi-Fi
  • laundry room
  • showers and restrooms

Padre Palms also hosts a number of special events and weekly activities like potluck dinners, weekend breakfasts (2 pancakes for $1.25 or 2 eggs for $2.50), and various activities like kayaking, fishing, wind surfing, and more. The Park has easy access to the freeway and is very convenient to lots of good restaurants, attractions, nightlife, and fun things to see and do.

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

We will stay at Padre Palms if we want to explore Corpus and the surrounding area. Padre Palms is very close to some Corpus Christi golf courses, the beaches on the Gulf, the Bay for all sorts of water activities, the Padre Island National Seashore, and one of our favorite towns (Port Aransas) and golf courses (Newport Dunes). And Padre Palms is about 15 minutes from downtown Corpus and all the attractions, restaurants, and nightlife. Along the Corpus Christi waterfront is one of our favorite places to ride bikes - it's an easy wide paved path along the bay, past the beautiful boats in the Corpus Christi Marina, and to some of the Corpus attractions. We also like to head over to Bird Island as well as the Bob Hall Pier to watch the windsurfing and kiteboarding. Nearby Snoopy's on the Bay has ok fried seafood and is an excellent setting for drinks and watching the sunset.

Cool Nearby Activities:
The Padre Palms website does an excellent job of highlighting some of the major attractions and things to do and each has a link to the attraction's website. Check out our list of the Top Ten Fun Things To See and Do in Corpus Christi and our interactive map of Corpus Christi to find the location of all the attractions and more fun stuff. If you like to golf, you have some excellent choices and this Corpus Christi Golf Map will help you find a course and link to our course review if there is one. Have fun!

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
