Brief Overview: Amenities and Fun Things To Do: Some of the other amenities at Cedar Hill include: restrooms and showers, dump stations, lots of picnic areas, swimming area and beach, sand volleyball court, snack bar, small store, 5 fishing piers (two are lighted), 210 picnic tables, 2 multi-lane boat ramps with ample parking, and 4 playgrounds. Joe Pool Marina has a small ships store, concession, gas, ice, and they rent watercraft. Cedar Hill State Park is home to the premier North Texas mountain bike trail. The DORBA trail, named for the volunteers of the Dallas Off Road Biking Association, was built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers. Over 1200 acres of prime mountain bike landscape are crisscrossed with 15 miles of intense riding. This exciting trail is closed after rainfall so call 972/291-3900 and press star 2 for trail conditions. Click here to see a trail map. There are also 5.5 miles of good hiking trails to the primitive camping and beyond. Within the Park is the Penn Farm Agricultural History Center which was an 1100 farm from the 1850's and includes restored buildings built in 1859, examples of construction techniques and materials common to North Texas in the 1850's, and examples of how the original Penn family availed themselves of existing resources. A Typical Texas Outsider Day: A typical day at Cedar Hill Park includes enjoying the lake for skiing, anchoring and swimming, or heading over to Lynn Creek Marina and the floating restaurant the Oasis for food, drinks, and live music. If you are into hiking, Joe Pool has a good hiking trail. We always bring the bikes and hit the trails which are fun and challenging. Occasionally we will camp at Joe Pool and go to the horse races at Lone Star Park. Check their schedule, they usually have some great music for the price of entrance to the track (around $3). We have seen Pat Green, Jack Ingram, and some other great bands.
