Caney Cove Resort & RV Park Type: Camping - RV Park Texas Outside Favorite Sites: Screen shelters S1 or S4, cabins 8 and 11, RV site G10, and tent site D13
Brief Overview: Caney Cove is a well maintained, clean, and treed resort run by a very friendly and helpful staff. Doylene and Carol will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The Resort is located about 4 miles northwest of Malakoff and is one of the few Resorts on Cedar Creek Reservoir with lodging and RV sites on the water. Amenities and Fun Things To Do: A Typical Texas Outsider Day: Cedar Cove is on the shore of a large cove which is excellent for skiing, boarding, or tubing. After getting some exercise, head north and cruise the east shoreline to view some magnificent homes. You will also find some good coves for skiing, rafting together, fishing, or swimming. Hungry yet, if so cruise over to Don's Port Marina and sit on their deck overlooking the lake, munch on some of their excellent food, ranging from burgers to steaks -- the onion rings, catfish, chicken wrap, and mushroom swiss burger are outstanding! Fill up the fuel tanks and continue heading north. The east side seems to have the best coves and biggest houses. Before heading back, we stopped at Cedar Isle Restaurant & Baia Beach Club for some drinks and appetizers -- the buffalo wings, Chicken Works nachos, and Captains Sampler were very good. They also have live music on the weekends. Cedar Isle is at the north end of the lake on the middle island of the highway 85 bridge across the lake. We closed the evening at Honeys Oasis bar for karaoke. Honeys is across the street and a couple blocks north. A block to the south of Caney Cove is Connie Macks, another local drinking hole which we didn't have time to try. Sunday we golfed at Pinnacle Club -- an excellent 18 holes of golf which is 20 minutes from Caney Cove -- we gave it an 8.2 rating.
Cool Nearby Activities: There are plenty of restaurants around the area, but if you're staying at Caney Cove or anywhere nearby, you need to visit Bubba Jeans in Malakoff which is about 4 miles from Caney Cove. Bubba Jeans (903 489-3474) has a 30 foot buffet loaded with salad, jumbo, and some excellent Cajun seafood. Make sure you meet the charismatic and charming Bubba Jean before you leave stuffed to the brim with his great food. Pinnacle Golf Course is a fun course to play and some other courses in the area include Shady Oaks Golf Course and Cedar Creek Country Club. Check out Texas Outsides' Golf Section for other nearby courses and to read the review of Pinnacle Golf Course.
