Brief Overview:
Hickory Creek is a very clean and well-maintained Corp of Engineer park on Lake Lewisville (read the review here) with 124 water and electricity (some 50 amp) and 10 primitive sites plus a group shelter and camping area. Most of the sites have water/electricity, are level, spacious, well treed, and have a view of the water. The majority of Hickory Creek is along the north shore of Lake Lewisville and a small cove and as such, there is good access to the water. The park has wide boat ramps with plenty of trailer parking, a single dump station, a roped in swim area with a beach and change house, and clean restrooms and showers.
Amenities and Fun Things To Do:
There aren't a lot of amenities at Hickory Creek to entertain you, so you'll need to make your own fun. You can run, walk, or bike a short paved nature trail that winds through the campground and tress. Walking the other short dirt nature trail is a nice way to spend a hour or so. If it's a hot day, spend the day at the beach and swimming area. Or try your luck and try to catch some dinner. If you want to enjoy the lake, rent a pontoon boat, ski boat, or jet ski - click here to find a list of watercraft rentals on Lake Lewisville.
The City of Lewisville offers lots of things to do including golf, restaurants, shopping, and more.
A Typical Texas Outsider Day:
If you have a boat, click here to see the things to do on Lake Lewisville which include a party cove, disc golf course, a nine hole golf course, cruising, and a couple restaurants with good food and music. A typical day on Lewisville with a boat includes: cruising by some nice homes a little west of Hickory Creek, skiing if the water is smooth, heading over to join the crowd at the party cove, then appetizers or dinner and some music at Charlies or Sneaky Pete's. If you don't have a boat, this park is good for some pure camping and chillin' in your campsite. It's a good campground to get to know your neighbors or your kids or best friend, play some camping games, and barbecue some chicken.

Sneaky Pete's restaurant, which is 10 minutes away on the other side of the lake serves some good food, typically has live music on the weekends, and has an excellent deck with a swimming pool. Sneaky Pete's also has multiple volleyball courts and its easy to join or start a game. For a unique and very exciting and fun experience, you can charter a 70' beautiful catamaran and sail on Lake Lewisville. Check out Big D Cats for a day, evening, or dinner dance cruise.

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”. Each park is rated on:
- Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
- Park Condition: the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
- Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
- Campsites: low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
- Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
