Front Nine Rating: 8.0 Stars Back Nine Rating: 7.5 Stars Approximate Weekend Price Range: $0.00 to $0.00 Where To Get Coupons: None Brief Description: John Rhadigan from Fox Sports Net sums Tangle Ridge up very nicely by stating: "This gem in Grand Prairie feels like a Hill Country course. It is a great layout and always in great condition. It can challenge golfers of any skill level."? Texas Outside agrees with that statement and would add that Tangle Ridge has some very fun holes, offers some scenic views, and is an excellent round of golf. We found the greens were big, in very good condition, true, and had minor undulation. The fairways were in good shape with berms, dog legs, and good variety plus some natural hazards and slope to add some challenge. The traps are plentiful and waiting to catch your ball -- but they are some of the best traps (fine grained white sand good enough to make you want to set up a beach chair, have a drink and soak up some rays) we've experienced in some time and we experienced them at Tangle Ridge a number of times. You should score well and have an enjoyable round if you can keep the ball fairly straight and use some good course management. Some of the other acclaim that Tangle Ridge has assessed includes: Top Ten Best Overall from 2005 Avid Golfer; Best Overall by Texas Golfer in 2005; and Dallas Morning News in 2004 listed them in the Top 20 Mid-Priced Course in Texas.

Here's How Texas Outside Determines the Scorecard RatingThe Texas Outside rating scale ranges from 1 to 10 – a perfect 10 course would be something like this: links along a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean and bordered by tall trees; lush fairways on rolling hills with lots of natural hazards; water (which is crystal clear) on most of the holes; immaculate greens (but they are undulating and tough); lots of variety and character (each hole is completely different and includes blind shots, elevation changes, doglegs, and significant challenges); perfectly manicured traps with the whitest and prettiest sand you’ve ever seen; a nice club house with great food and a 19th hole; a GPS; plenty of beverage carts or your own cooler and ice; and it only costs $40 bucks! What this means is that you probably won’t find any 10s in Texas – try Cabo San Lucas, Pebble Beach, or some of the Hawaii courses!
All of the above determines the overall score for the golf course. In other words, we like courses that are pretty, fun, very challenging with a lot of variety, and fairways and greens in excellent condition – all for $40. We also tend to play the courses that are affordable for the masses, which means in the $30 to $80 range. We rate hard and we haven’t found a 10 in Texas yet – don’t worry we haven’t given up and we’re still looking.
