Date Played: May 14, 2007
Front Nine Rating: 8.5 Stars Back Nine Rating: Stars Approximate Weekend Price Range: $30.00 to $55.00 Brief Description: The Ridge is the most challenging of the 27 holes at Tapatio Springs Resort. The Ridge course traverses up and down the hills around Tapatio Springs Resort taking advantage of the natural terrain and as such it can be very challenging - if you want something easier, play the Lakes Course. The Ridge offers dramatic elevation changes plus fantastic views of the Resort, the other courses, and the surrounding countryside dotted with magnificent homes along the hillside and ridges. Playing the Ridge you'll find a little bit of everything and plenty of challenges - waterfalls, blind shots, doglegs, lakes, sand, narrow approaches, dramatic elevation changes, creeks, sandstone cliffs, and trees. On this nine, you may want to keep the driver in the bag and study the GPS and course tips before you tee off. The Ridge Course is short from all the tee boxes, par is 35, and course management is required to score well. If you use your head, select the proper clubs, and can keep the ball in the fairway, you should score well - but that is a lot to accomplish on 9 holes! Compared to the other two nines, the Ridge's greens and fairways weren't in as good of condition (7 out of 10) as the other two nines. Regardless, we loved this course and can't wait to play it again. It remains a memorable experience. Tapatio Springs is an outstanding resort with lots to do in addition to golf and they have a very good Stay and Play package - click here to learn more about their golf packages. You will find Texas Outside's review of Tapatio Springs Resort and Conference on this page. There are reviews of the other two course in the Golf Section of Texas Outside.

Here's How Texas Outside Determines the Scorecard RatingThe Texas Outside rating scale ranges from 1 to 10 – a perfect 10 course would be something like this: links along a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean and bordered by tall trees; lush fairways on rolling hills with lots of natural hazards; water (which is crystal clear) on most of the holes; immaculate greens (but they are undulating and tough); lots of variety and character (each hole is completely different and includes blind shots, elevation changes, doglegs, and significant challenges); perfectly manicured traps with the whitest and prettiest sand you’ve ever seen; a nice club house with great food and a 19th hole; a GPS; plenty of beverage carts or your own cooler and ice; and it only costs $40 bucks! What this means is that you probably won’t find any 10s in Texas – try Cabo San Lucas, Pebble Beach, or some of the Hawaii courses!
All of the above determines the overall score for the golf course. In other words, we like courses that are pretty, fun, very challenging with a lot of variety, and fairways and greens in excellent condition – all for $40. We also tend to play the courses that are affordable for the masses, which means in the $30 to $80 range. We rate hard and we haven’t found a 10 in Texas yet – don’t worry we haven’t given up and we’re still looking.
