Date Played: January 06, 2008
Front Nine Rating: 9.0 Stars Back Nine Rating: 8.5 Stars Approximate Weekend Price Range: $49.00 to $70.00 Brief Description: Wow - you have just discovered a new, fun, and very enjoyable course that after you play it once, it will be on your short list for playing again, and again, and again. The Golf Club At Frisco Lakes is within the Del Web development in west Frisco and is managed by Palmer Golf. The course opened in August of 2007 and when we played in January 2008 the pro shop was operating out of a temporary club house and some of the amenities had not yet been completed. However, don't let that stop you from playing this course now. This is a links type course and the front nine meanders through the trees, gently rolling terrain, and along the shore of Lake Lewisville. The back nine wanders through the Del Web community and most of the holes are lined with moderately priced homes. The fairways were in excellent condition and each hole is different and fun to play. You'll find a little bit of everything - dog legs, some risk reward decisions, blind shots, narrow and tight approaches, water, thick white sand bunkers, and even an island green. The five sets of tee boxes can accommodate any level of player and off the tee you'll find the fairways pretty open and lacking major hazards. But the approach shots put a premium on accuracy - you'll encounter bunkers, water, and tight approaches around the greens. The greens were in excellent condition, most were huge, a little fast, and gently rolling. Take a hard look at both the approach shot to the green and study each putt carefully if you want to score well. The greens can have some subtle breaks that will surprise you. Bottom line, Frisco Lakes provides an excellent and very enjoyable round of golf - you're going to love it!

Here's How Texas Outside Determines the Scorecard RatingThe Texas Outside rating scale ranges from 1 to 10 – a perfect 10 course would be something like this: links along a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean and bordered by tall trees; lush fairways on rolling hills with lots of natural hazards; water (which is crystal clear) on most of the holes; immaculate greens (but they are undulating and tough); lots of variety and character (each hole is completely different and includes blind shots, elevation changes, doglegs, and significant challenges); perfectly manicured traps with the whitest and prettiest sand you’ve ever seen; a nice club house with great food and a 19th hole; a GPS; plenty of beverage carts or your own cooler and ice; and it only costs $40 bucks! What this means is that you probably won’t find any 10s in Texas – try Cabo San Lucas, Pebble Beach, or some of the Hawaii courses!
All of the above determines the overall score for the golf course. In other words, we like courses that are pretty, fun, very challenging with a lot of variety, and fairways and greens in excellent condition – all for $40. We also tend to play the courses that are affordable for the masses, which means in the $30 to $80 range. We rate hard and we haven’t found a 10 in Texas yet – don’t worry we haven’t given up and we’re still looking.
