Date Played: April 21, 2006
Front Nine Rating: 7.0 Stars Back Nine Rating: 6.0 Stars Approximate Weekend Price Range: $0.00 to $0.00 Brief Description: QuickSand Golf Course (formally known as Cypress Creek) has been around since 1970 and was acquired by Quicksand Inc in 2001. When we played the course in 4-06 it was still showing some signs of age and needed some maintenance and other improvements. QuickSand winds through gently rolling hills lined with medium priced houses just north of Wimberley. The fairways are in fair condition but watch out for the fire ants and deer. The greens and fringe were in pretty good shape, are medium sized, and most had a fair amount of undulation. This is a course of doglegs and every hole except for the par 3s on the front nine is a dogleg. QuickSand contains a number of blind holes and elevation changes that present a challenge the first time you play the course, particularly since neither the scorecard nor the hole has any type of hole map to help with course management and club selection! Although there are a lot of doglegs and some pretty scenery, only one hole (#8) has real character and is memorable. There is one hole with water, very few traps, and not a lot to cause you a problem, so you should score well. Bottom line, QuickSand is a good round of golf at a very reasonable price. If you plan on eating at the course, try the blacked fish hoagie or the mushroom Swiss burger - both are an 8! Stop by and play QuickSand if you're in Wimberley.

Here's How Texas Outside Determines the Scorecard RatingThe Texas Outside rating scale ranges from 1 to 10 – a perfect 10 course would be something like this: links along a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean and bordered by tall trees; lush fairways on rolling hills with lots of natural hazards; water (which is crystal clear) on most of the holes; immaculate greens (but they are undulating and tough); lots of variety and character (each hole is completely different and includes blind shots, elevation changes, doglegs, and significant challenges); perfectly manicured traps with the whitest and prettiest sand you’ve ever seen; a nice club house with great food and a 19th hole; a GPS; plenty of beverage carts or your own cooler and ice; and it only costs $40 bucks! What this means is that you probably won’t find any 10s in Texas – try Cabo San Lucas, Pebble Beach, or some of the Hawaii courses!
All of the above determines the overall score for the golf course. In other words, we like courses that are pretty, fun, very challenging with a lot of variety, and fairways and greens in excellent condition – all for $40. We also tend to play the courses that are affordable for the masses, which means in the $30 to $80 range. We rate hard and we haven’t found a 10 in Texas yet – don’t worry we haven’t given up and we’re still looking.
