In July, we had the opportunity to visit Rock Creek Resort and loved it. If you're looking for some property in one of the best golf communities in Texas, then you should consider taking a tour of Rock Creek Resort which is home to a fantastic private 18 hole Jack Nicklaus designed course, some beautiful home sites for sale, a marina on one of the best lakes in Texas, and more resort style amenities. Rock Creek is located on 1300 acres of treed rolling terrain some of which is along the shoreline of Lake Texoma. Rock Creek Resort is on the outskirts of Gordonville which is about 20 minutes west of Sherman and 85 miles north of Dallas. Check out this Rock Creek Property Map.
As you drive through the gently rolling countryside and to the well landscaped security gate at Rock Creek, you get the sense that you're in for a special treat and you're right. In addition to 1300 beautiful acres, Rock Creek has some first class resort style amenities, some of which include:
If you don't have a boat, you can rent one from the resort and Rock Creek can also arrange for a fishing guide - Lake Texoma is well know as one of the best lakes in Texas for striper, bass, and catfish. Lake Texoma is huge with over 89,000 acres and 580 miles of shoreline, the water is typically clean and clear blue, there are some restaurants you can boat up to, and there is a string of small islands with sandy beaches. The fishing is very good and you can usually find some good water for boarding or tubing. Read our Review of Lake Texoma.
But from our perspective, the best amenity at Rock Creek Resort is the private 18 hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Each nine is a little different form the other nine - the front nine is relatively easy and forgiving wide fairways and some huge greens and the back nine is fair but very demanding with smaller and heavily contoured greens. On some holes you can let-it-rip on others you'll need some precise shot making skills to score. You'll encounter dog legs, forced carries, bunkers and trees in the middle of the fairway, some elevated tee shots, and more. With all of that, it's not surprising that Rock Creek Resort Golf Course made our list of the Best Private Golf Courses in Texas. Here is a link to our review of Rock Creek Resort Golf Course.
The reason we got to play Rock Creek Resort's golf course is because took advantage of their offer to tour Rock Creek. Double Diamond offered a "Complimentary Getaway Package" that included a tour of the property, a one night stay, a round of golf, and dining at the restaurant. Here is a link to that special offer, which may not last that long.
We stayed in one of the homeowner's houses for one night which was a nicely appointed 3 bedroom house with a well stocked kitchen, huge master bedroom, media room, and comfy living room. Rock Creek is currently building some condos right next to the pool and I image they will be used as part of the Getaway Package in the later part of 2015.
Right after unpacking our bags and popping a cold beer, we headed over to the very well done pool area for a couple hours to soak up some rays and enjoy the salt water pool.
After cooling off we headed 3 miles down the road for some very good BBQ at Don's BBQ. Unfortunately, the Rock Creek Restaurant was closed on Tuesday or we would have eaten there. However the next morning before golf we enjoyed a great breakfast and after golf a very good lunch - a delicious soup and a very good Catfish Po' Boy sandwich with some homemade chips. What an enjoy stay and round of golf.
