Borrego Springs Golf Course Reviews

Montesoro Golf CourseBorrego Springs is a quaint small town smack dab in the middle of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the town is surrounded by majestic mountain ranges and home to some outstanding golf courses. When we arrived in Borrego Springs we didn't have high expectations for the golf courses - wow, were we surprised. You'll need to read the reviews to find out why.

Not only is Borrego Springs home to some great golf courses, but it is a fantastic place to stay if you want to explore Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which is the largest state park in California. The State Park has five hundred miles of dirt roads for off road adventures, 12 wilderness areas with a variety of beautiful terrains, and many miles of hiking trails for you to experience the wonders of the California Desert. When you visit you can dry camp anywhere in the desert or at several State Park campgrounds or at The Springs at Borrego - one of the best luxury RV parks in California and home to an excellent 9 hole golf course. Or you can stay in any of several lodging options or the Borrego Springs Resort which has 27 holes for you to play.

The Desert Willow golf course at Borrego Springs Resort is reguarded as the easiest of the 27 holes at Borrego Springs Resort and is the preferred course for women and couples. Most golfers think it is the prettiest of all three nines. We thought that it had the most interesting and fun holes.

The Mesquite nine holes at Borrego Springs Resort is the middle of the road course at the resort - not the hardest or the easiest and scenic but not awe inspiring. Mesquite is the shortest at 3237 yards and is a par 35 but it has some fun and challenging holes. The par 3's are long and demanding (one is 197 yards with a carry of a lake) and the one par five will test your driver.

The Palms nine holes at Borrego Springs Resort is the longest (3571 yards) and the most demanding of the three nines. This nine demands some shot making or some excellent play out of the bunkers which seem to be everywhere and are huge and treacherous. It seems that each hole is a mine field of fairway and greenside bunkers. My shoes, hair, and pockets took a lot of the sand home with me. Fun nine.

Wow, Montesoro is one impressive layout designed by Tom Fazio. Montesoro has everything that makes golf fun and keeps us playing this expensive and frustrating game - lots of variety with every hole being different and unique, typical Fazio challenges (huge bunkers, challenging green complexes, sloping and countoured fariways, and more), good conditions, and scenic vistas.

The Springs at Borrego is a luxury RV resort and home to nine very impressive holes and near perfect conditions. Lush green fairways, perfectly manicured and maintained desert landcape, and smooth true greens. This is one of those courses you want to walk and take your time as you enjoy the views and scenery on the way to the green. Some fun holes including the excellent finishing hole with an island green.

There are some other courses in Borrego Springs that we didn't have a chance to play: RoadRunner Golf Club, an 18 hole par 3 course; and deAnza Country Club.
