Jellystone Park at Rustic Creek Ranch Overview:

When you enter Rustic Creek Ranch and observe the spacious green areas, the unique metal animal sculptures, and the landscaping you sense that you are in for a treat. Known as "the shining star of North Texas," Rustic Creek Ranch is well deserving of it's title - this is one outstanding RV park.

In 2010, Rustic Creek Ranch received the 2010 "Best Accomodations" award by the Texas Association of Campground Owners.  In addition, Rustic Creek became part of Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park system.

Located on over 65 acres in the growing community of Burleson just 10 minutes from downtown Ft Worth, Rustic Creek Ranch is one of the best RV parks in Texas. In addition to over 240 RV sites, the Park has 37 very unique custom built luxury cabins that are perfect for a weekend or longer stay to explore and enjoy the local area.

Rustic Creek Ranch is very well maintained, restrooms and other facilities are spotless, and the service is second to none. The staff is dedicated, friendly, and out to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. When we stayed at the park, two out-of-state guests (one from California, the other from Pennsylvania) told us that they thought Rustic Creek was one of the best parks they had stayed in and that the staff was outstanding. After an hour meeting with park management and the owner, we left the meeting impressed with their commitment to excellence, service, and to ensuring a good guest experience. And they have some unbelievable future plans to make Rustic Creek Ranch (formally known as RV Ranch) a true destination resort and unique to north Texas - stay tuned!

The good news, bad news, is that Rustic Creek is located on the frontage road of I-35W which provides convenient and easy access to lots of fun things to see and do, but also results in some freeway noise. However, we stayed in a cabin close to the interstate and didn't hear any of the freeway noise. Rustic Creek Ranch is in a perfect location to explore Ft Worth, Arlington, Granbury, and Glen Rose and to take advantage of everything they have to offer - from the best amusement parks to fantastic zoos.

Amenities and Fun Things To Do:

The original section of Rustic Creek Ranch is a fairly typical RV park with 184 sites that are a combination of back-in and pull through. What separates this section of Rustic Creek from other parks is the well shaded and maintained sites, the easy access to two pools and four unique group facilities which are available for reunions, rallies, and weddings. Each of the sites have a picnic table, full hook-ups, cable, and instant phone service. Stay in this section if you want shade.

The newer section of the park has 80 full hook-up pull through sites that have a unique and patent pending design that typifies managements philosophy of providing a unique guest experience. The V-Pod sites offer more grassy open spaces between the sites and share a covered picnic table. When you set up your lawn chairs in one of these uniquely designed sites, you don't feel as cramped and crowded as you would in most RV Parks. Each site has a concrete patio for your chairs and most have some colorful landscaping.

Big rigs and long trailers should not have any problem maneuvering throughout the park and all the streets are lighted. Common to all the RV sites are:

  • level pads
  • City water and sewer
  • picnic tables and some sites have grills
  • 20/30/50 AMP service
  • instant phone with free local service
  • high speed wireless Internet
  • cable television

The V-pod sites are unique, innovative, and different, but you'll be amazed by the very cool cottages at Rustic Creek. Most RV parks are now adding cottages/cabins to their parks, which is fantastic because it means that all our kids, grand-kids, and friends without RVs can now join us without trying to cram into our motorhome! The majority of the RV park cabins that we have seen and stayed in are cookie cutter manufactured "park models," but that's not the case with the Rustic Creek Ranch Cottages. Some of what separates these luxury cottages from others include:

  • luxury and distinctive furnishings
  • flat screen TVs with HBO and DVD/CD players
  • very soft fluffy beds - I slept like a baby and found it hard to get up an out of bed!
  • jacuzzi tubs in some suites
  • refrigerator and wet bar
  • microwave and coffee maker

All of the above should get you excited about staying at Rustic Creek Ranch, but if not, here are some other things that we liked about this outstanding park:

  • two great pools (one of which is adults only), a hot tub, a kiddie pool, and nice patio furniture in a shaded pretty setting
  • four different well appointed group facilities
  • a pet run and a playground for the kids
  • four laundromats and very clean restrooms and showers - individual private tiled showers and toilet facilities
  • small gift shop plus RV and food staples
  • public use computer with wired Internet access
  • game room with games, free DVD rentals, books, and TV
  • very high tech monitoring and security system
  • unique sculptures throughout the park

Management has some very exciting future plans to keep this park as one of the best in Texas. In the immediate future all the roads will be paved, more cottages added, and a group area with a unique group facility, a cluster of cottages, and a private pool with a beach entry will be added. I can't wait to come back when some of the other cool future improvements are added which will make Rustic Creek Ranch a true destination resort! Rustic Creek has plans to continue investing in additional amenities over the next year, including a pedal kart track, arcade, and laser tag. A waterpark and sprayground are also expected to open by the summer of 2011. The park is also investing in inflatable climbing structures for children and is ramping up its slate of campground activities to include daily craft classes, family games, hayrides as well as rides on the park’s fire truck, which the park recently purchased.

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

We had a very enjoyable one night stay in one of the Rustic Creek Cottages. The cottage we stayed in got multiple "Wows" when we opened the door. The bed was truly very "fluffy" and comfortable, the fireplace would have been great if it wasn't 100 degrees, the free popcorn and peanuts were appreciated as a late night snack, and the jacuzzi tub helped get rid of some of the kinks from golf. Some of what we enjoyed during our brief stay included:

  • golf at nearby Cleburne Golf Links and Hidden Creek Golf Course (3 minutes up the road)
  • live music and good home cooking at The Porch restaurant
  • walking the streets and shops of Old Town Burleson
  • had a tasty inexpensive breakfast at Rebecca's cafe

Cool Nearby Activities:

Rustic Creek Ranch is a perfect location to explore the area and within an easy hour drive you have tons of choices for fun things to see and do, some of which include:

  • within 10 minutes you can be in downtown Ft Worth enjoying the museums and theaters; miles of running and biking trails; one of the best zoos around; Sundance Square and its excellent restaurants, music, and great nightlife; and the Stockyard and all of it's fun activities
  • Old Town Burleson is a couple minutes away and it's home to some antique shops, the infamous Babes Restaurant, and the Heritage Museum
  • if you like wine, vist Lone Oak Winery and sample some of their fantastic wine in a beautiful setting with live music on occasion
  • take the kids to nearby Arlington for Hurricane Harbor Waterpark, Six Flags Amusement Park, or a game or event at the BallPark
  • enjoy any of the nearby lakes for fishing, boating, or a picnic
  • hit the links - you have lots of fun and excellent golf courses within 15 minutes
  • explore nearby Granbury or Glen Rose - two of our favorite cities with lots of fun things to see and do
  • or just chill at the pool, play cards, domino's, or other games and BBQ a great meal

Have fun and enjoy your stay!

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
