Sandy Lake Mobile Home & RV Resort Overview:

Review and Rating of Sandy Lake Mobile Home & RV Resort

Sandy Lake Mobile Home & RV Park is owned and managed by Sun RV Resorts who has a portfolio of excellent RV Parks throughout the United States. Their other Texas Parks include: Travelers World RV Resort in San Antonio, Austin Lone Star RV Resort in Austin, Treetops RV Village in Arlington, Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort in San Antonio,  Hill Country Cottage & RV Resort in New Braunfels,  and La Hacienda RV Resort & Cabins  in Austin - all of which are top rated RV resorts.  You'll find a review of each of these parks on Texas Outside's RV Park Reviews Page.

Sandy Lake RV Park is conveniently located between Interstate 35 on the east and George Bush Freeway on the West, providing easy access to any part of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. The Resort terrain is flat and the Resort is well treed, somewhat dated, and the majority of the Resprt is mobile homes and RV sites for monthly renters.   Nine of the over 270 RV sites are reserved for daily or weekly use.

Sandy Lake is managed by Sun RV resorts and as is typical of all Sun RV Resorts, the staff is well trained and focused on providing friendly and helpful service and the Resort is clean and well maintained.   Sun RV  Resorts made significant improvements when they took over ownership of Sandy Lake.

Sandy Lake Mobile Home & RV Resort is a perfect place to stay if you want to explore the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex or if you're looking for a rest stop on you way north or south on 35 east.  The Resort is located between Dallas and Fort Worth and has easy access to freeways going in all directions.

Amenities and Fun Things To Do:

The RV sites that are open for daily use at Sandy Lake Resort are currently side-by-side pull through sites with little to no space and include: water, 30 and 50 amp electric. Hook-ups are conveniently located near the rear of the site.  All of the sites are level pull-throughs but maneuvering a big rig into a site may be somewhat challenging. Most of the sites are shaded.

Some of the amenities at Sandy Lake include:

  • clubhouse and kitchen for meetings
  • game room with pool table, foosball, and coke and snack machines
  • swimming pool
  • coin laundry
  • clean and well maintained private restrooms and showers
  • small convenience store with some staples and RV supplies
  • fitness center with a variety of equipment
  • wireless Internet access
  • large fenced in dog park
  • covered patio and playscape area
  • trailer storage

Sandy Lake is dated, the sites are cramped, and the Park is primarily for full-timers and mobile homes. However, if you can overlook all of that, Sandy Lake is an excellent place to park the rig, explore the area or visit friends and relatives, and spend the night. It is very convenient to lots of things to see and do.

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

As mentioned earlier, we would stay here if we wanted easy and close access to explore the metroplex. From Sandy Lake you can be in downtown Dallas in 10 minutes (with no traffic) or Fort Worth in 20 minutes!  We love to golf, bike,  hit some bars with music, enjoy some local restaurants, and boat and you'll find plenty of choices for all of these activities and more nearby.

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
