Texas Point NWR is located in the Chenier Plain of the upper Texas Gulf Coast and is predominantly a saline-brackish marsh complex. The refuge is part of the Texas Gulf Ecoregion, providing habitat for a variety of wildlife species. Concentrations in excess of 5000 ducks have been recorded with 23 species represented. One species of local interest is the mottled duck which uses the marsh for nesting and brood-rearing. Large portions of the refuge form estuarine environments with tidal grounds for shrimp, crabs and fish. The refuge woodlot provides resting and feeding habitat for migrating neotropical birds. Waterfowl hunting and fishing account for the majority of public use. Bird watching is popular recreation during the spring and winter months.
