Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Water Park

This page is dated and has been replace by a new, improved, and much more informative (we are a little biased) Schlitterbahn Page.

Fun Scale - 8.5

Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark is the world’s first indoor/outdoor convertible waterpark and is the third waterpark in the Schlitterbahn family of Texas parks. The 26.4-acre waterpark has over 25 attractions and is now open year round.

The 70,000 square foot Wasserfest (the new name for the covered portion of the park) has a retractable roof which makes the attractions fun in the winter and summer. During the indoor season, Wasserfest's convertible roof is closed converting the area into a climate-controlled indoor park with heated water. How would you like to enjoy over 12 park attractions in your bathing suit in 84 degree water, when it is 30 degrees outside? How good is that.

Some of the Wasserfest year-round attractions include:

  • four tube slides including a 6 story plunge down a vertical waterfall
  • a river powered by continuous waves that lets you catch a tube and float to various parts of the park
  • three speed slides
  • three kids activity areas containing a variety of children's play elements and pint-sized slides
  • a secluded beach with gentle waves washing up on it
  • hot tub

There are two other areas of Schlitterbahn in Galveston -- the picnic and food pavilion area with snacks, pizza, BBQ, and burgers; lockers, and restrooms and the Surfenburg area. The Surfenburg area is open during the summer and includes:

  • body boarding on a giant wave
  • multiple speed slides including a fast triple-drop family slide
  • slow moving river that circles Surfenburg
  • shallow water fun pool for kids
  • body flumes
  • wave pool
  • three different beaches (one with no sand)

Opening in April 2007 is Blastenhoff which will have 7 more new attractions. Blastenhoff will include a rapids river, a new kid's play area, a hot tub, and a large speed tower featuring 3 amazing body slides.

There is close by free parking and you can bring your family picnic basket, but no alcohol or glass containers. Prices in 2006 started at $25.59 for an all day adult admission and $20.99 for children from 3 to 11. There are senior rates, mid day rates, and two day tickets.

If you are in Galveston any time of the year, stop by and enjoy this great family park.
