With the temperature rising staying properly hydrated is the key to finishing your round in good form. Water is a critical component to proper muscle and brain function. Studies show that if you become 5% dehydrated athletic performance decreases by 30%, and 1% dehydration significantly impairs cognitive function. We first notice we are thirsty when we are 1% dehydrated. With a 2% drop in hydration, there is a 5% drop in athletic performance. We have all experienced rounds coming down the finishing holes where you lose your swing and wonder why! Drink more water!!

  • Drink 12-16 ounces of water 15 minutes prior to practice or play.
  • Drink 4- 6 ounces of water every 15-20 minutes during practice or play.
  • A good rule is to drink on every other tee box. Keep a water bottle with you.
  • Limit sports drinks, sodas, and juices the sugar content slows the absorption of water.
  • Avoid caffeinated beverages and alcohol as they increase dehydration.
