Island House Hotel Review

If you are heading to Gulf Shores for a golfing vacation or a family vacation, then you need to consider staying at Island House Hotel. We spent a couple nights at Island House Hotel during a week long golfing vacation in Gulf Shores and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Some of what we liked about staying at Island House Hotel includes:

  • Comfortable Rooms - we were on the 7th floor and our standard hotel type room had two comfortable double beds that were very difficult to get out of each morning, a large flat screen, work desk, wireless internet, coffee maker, safe, and a large bathroom and room service each day
  • Great Service - to a tee, everyone we met or talked to was very friendly, helpful, and courteous and wanted to make sure that we enjoyed our stay
  • Convenient Location - Island House Hotel is centrally located in Orange Beach on the main drag that easily gets you to all the activities and golf in Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, or Predido Key, Florida
  • Great Amenities - unfortunately we didn't have time to enjoy any of the Island House Hotel amenities because we spent so much time golfing, but we won't make that mistake next time we stay here
  • Gulf Front Views - all of the rooms have a private balcony that overlooks the beach and was a perfect place to watch the sunrise (I never made it up for that) and excellent for a cocktail and the stunning sunsets, which I did find time to enjoy
  • Golf Packages - our main reason to visit Gulf Shores was to enjoy some of the excellent nine signature golf courses designed by the likes of Arnold Palmer, Bruce Devlin, Jerry Pate, Earl Stone and Robert Von Hagge and Island House Hotel has golf packages that can include Gulf-front accommodations, 18 holes of golf with cart per night stay, guaranteed tee times, and no extra charges

If you like the beach, then one of the best amenities at Island House Hotel is that you can walk out the back door of the hotel, go past the pool, and walk for 30 seconds on the boardwalk across the dunes to 336 feet of private beach. And the sand is stunning - sugar white fine sand running into emerald green Gulf of Mexico water! A beach chair, umbrella, and pina colada could keep me here all day. Better yet, this stretch of beach is not as crowded as some of the Gulf Shores or other near by beaches.

If you get tired of this stretch of beach, within minutes you can be enjoying any part of the 32 miles of sugar white sand beaches in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach! Bring frisbees, skim boards, footballs, shovels and buckets, and other beach toys and make it a fun day in the sand and sun.

If you get hungry, the Hotel restaurant is less than a minute from your beach chair. Speaking of the restaurant, it overlooks the pool and white sand dunes and serves some tasty food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And again, service was fast and courteous and the prices were reasonable, not your high resort type pricing where two eggs over easy is $22. By the way, the Eggs Benedict were so good I had them twice.

Another thing I should have done during our stay was visit the Hotel's fitness center to burn off some of the calories from the Eggs Benedict and other great meals we enjoyed during our stay. Riding around in a golf cart doesn't get rid of many carbs - but it sure is fun.

For fun, the kids or us gamers enjoyed the Island House Hotel's game room which has several games to keep you busy. Just in case you need it, the Hotel also has guest laundry facilities, but who wants to spend time doing laundry when you can be golfing, eating, sitting on the beach, or enjoying some of the other local activities.

Unfortunately, the Hotel's Island Grille and Sand Bar Lounge were closed during our visit in February but the Sand Bar Lounge looked like a perfect place to have a drink to settle bets after a round of golf or a cocktail after enjoying the pool or beach. The pool and hot tub looked very inviting but we didn't have time to enjoy them either - next time! And the comfortable lobby is a great place to enjoy the morning newspaper and a cup of coffee.

Part of why you should consider staying at Island House Hotel is that it is close to lots of fun things to see and do, some of which include:

  • excellent golf courses from lush and plush resort type courses to one of the toughest courses in the state - here is a link to our reviews of the Gulf Shores Golf Courses we played
  • excellent restaurants and some very fun beach bars - nearby Cobalts is great for dinner on the water, Sunset Grill is excellent for lunch, kids and adults will enjoy all that LuLus has to offer, and Flora Bama, Hangout, Tacky Jacks, or Bahama Bobs are great beach bars with tasty food, cold drinks, great views, fun crowds, and live music
  • plenty of activities besides just eating, drinking, and golfing - you can go deep sea fishing, ride go carts or waverunners, rent a boat or enjoy the zoo, spend money shopping for tee shirts to pet crabs, go parasailing or kayaking, and lots of other fun stuff - no one should get bored in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores

If you are an event planner, then you should consider Island House Hotel for your next event - they have facilities for up to 100 people and their friendly staff can arrange all your meeting needs, from technical equipment and event planning to food service and poolside gatherings.

Have fun.
