As part of a fun filled six-day visit to Lake of the Ozarks we spent a couple nights at Alhonna Resort & Marina in Lake Ozark, Missouri. We chose to stay at Alhonna Resort for several reasons, some of which include:
Shortly after arriving at Alhonna Resort and after being warmly welcomed to the Resort, my wife and I were sitting on our deck overlooking Lake of the Ozarks and viewing a beautiful sunse – it just doesn’t get much better than that.
Alhonna Resort offers 60 lakeside units that range from motel-type rooms to four-bedroom condos and cabins with full kitchens, large decks or patios, and BBQ grills. The lodging options are designed to accommodate your family size and budget and they include:
We stayed in a 3 bedroom 900 square foot cottage with a large front porch under the trees and a Weber grill; a full kitchen including a , dining table with 6 chairs; and a living area with a leather sofa, matching love seat, coffee table, sofa table, chair with ottoman, two side chairs, four end tables, and a daybed. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, oven and all the equipment that you need to make a meal. There is a back patio and deck that has a beautiful view of the lake and a small table with 4 chairs. We had 2 bedrooms with queen beds, end tables, bureau with drawers and mirror and a bathroom with a tub/shower combo and a single sink. Our cottage had a lockout with one room with a bathroom and a private entrance that we could have unlocked to use as a third bedroom. The cottage was a throwback to the halcyon days of the small resorts at the Lake of the Ozarks and we found the cottage very comfortable and clean with everything we needed for a fun few days. Parking was just outside our front door.
I think the popularity of Alhonna Resort is based on the fact that it’s a fantastic place for people to relax, enjoy the lake and their family and friends, fish, and take advantage of the Resort's amenities, some of which include:
Bobber’s Restaurant and Lounge serves some down-home meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the bar is a fun place to hang out, have a cold drink, meet some new friends, or shoot a game of pool or play darts. Bobber’s Restaurant serves breakfast (eggs to biscuits with sausage gravy, the lake's best chimichanga, pancakes, and deep fried French toast), a breakfast buffet on Sundays, plus lunch and dinner with appetizers, wraps, sandwiches, salads, platters (chicken, fish, shrimp, crab), street tacos, pizzas, and desserts.
Our Fun Activities During a Stay at Alhonna Resort
After a huge delicious breakfast at Bobber's we walked down to the Marina and rented one of the 2018 Lowes tritoon pontoon boats and explored some of the 1150 miles of shoreline of Lake of the Ozarks. The boat was in perfect condition, fast enough that we could have wake boarded or tubed behind it, and the seating arrangement was outstanding and very comfortable. The bimini kept us cool and prevented my bald head from getting sunburned. And we had a fun day on the lake (beautiful huge homes, lots of boats, and fun lakeside restaurants) – click on this link to read about cruising on Lake of the Ozarks.
For dinner one night, we enjoyed a huge, tasty Italian dinner at Lil’ Rizzos - we were told by a couple people that we had to have the Chicken Speidini which is a lightly breaded, marinated chicken breast, charbroiled and topped with a garlic sauce and served over angel hair pasta with a side of lemon wedges - we split it and still couldn't eat it all. After dinner we stopped by H. Toads Bar & Grill for some live music.
Early the next morning we set off for a breakfast at Bear Creek Valley Golf Club’s restaurant which has a reputation of having the best eggs benedict in the area. Wow, they were fantastic and it was fun sitting on the deck enjoying breakfast and watching the golfers tee off on the first hole at Bear Creek Valley Golf Club. After watching the golfers tee off and try to carry the lake on the first hole at Bear Creek Valley Golf Club, I knew I was in trouble and that my round of golf was not going to start well.
Sure enough, on the first tee I drove two balls into the lake to a loud round of applause from the people sitting on the deck eating breakfast. Red faced, I teed it up again and just barely cleared the lake and then rolled into the trees – I’m not sure my fans saw that because I didn't get a second round of applause. My round got better as the day went on and we loved playing this fantastic course. Read our review of Bear Creek Valley Golf Club to learn more. What a morning – delicious eggs benedict, perfect weather, and an excellent golf course. By the way, if you're a golfer we can highly recommend the Lake of the Ozarks Golf Trail - we played several of the 13 courses on the trail and loved them all!
After lunch we headed to the patio at Shawnee Bluff Winery for some appetizers. What a perfect way to spend the rest of the afternoon – a beautiful view sitting on a deck on a cliff high above Lake of the Ozarks, an outstanding Sangria slush, two excellent guitar players, and perfect weather. Hard to beat all of that – my only wish was that I had brought my swimming suit so I could have enjoyed enjoy the pool!
Before turning in, we dropped in at Bobber’s Lounge for a game of pool, and watching a lively mix of Alhonna Resort guests. The next morning we set off for our last 3 days of our Lake of the Ozarks vacation. We really enjoyed the hospitality at Alhonna Resort & Marina and hope to come back again soon.
