Lake Murray State Park

Ardmore, OK

Texas Outside Review

Texas Outside Rating - 6.7

Located at Lake Murray State Park, which is one of our favorite campgrounds, the Lake Murray State Park Golf Course is a par 70 6300 yard 18-hole golf course that offers reasonable rates, some fun hole, fair conditions, and a few challenges to keep you on your game.

The course features towering oak trees, tree-lined fairways, strategically placed water hazards and a natural waterfall. Make it a fun weekend and camp, boat on a beautiful lake, fish, hike, bike, and play some golf. If you don't camp, there are cabins and a lodge available.

The rolling terrain, dramatic elevation changes, good conditions, peace and quiet, lots of variety, and panoramic views of Lake Texoma make this Randy Heckenkemper designed course a very fun, but challenging, 18 holes of golf that is well worth the escape across the border to play.

The fairways are all tree lined (no homes), in very good condition, and with plenty of uneven lies and the greens are great. Their motto is "Golf with a View!" - and they deliver on that promise. I must play course if you are anywhere near Lake Texoma.

Buncombe Creek

Texas Outside Review

Texas Outside Rating - 8.2

Buncombe Creek just across the border of Lake Texoma is a family owned 3024 year nine hole course. This is a country course that plays through a peanut farm and you're likely to hear some cows mooing or chickens clucking. The first couple holes are pretty traditional - flat, straight, and not real exciting - and then the terrain changes to rolling hills and tee lined fairways.

The conditions were surprisingly good when we played, the greens required some target golf, and the fairways were well maintained. And you can't beat the friendly service and great rates.

Texas Outside Rating - 8.4

Why wouldn't you want to play a course that was nominated for Golf Digest's "Best New Public Golf Course Award" and Avid Golfer rated "Best New Course in 2006." And after your round, win or lose, you can trying your luck in the WinStar World Casino.

It is a typical resort style course - very open and forgiving fairways, pretty straightforward layout in excellent condition, upscale facilities, large smooth greens, and outstanding service. This a course that is fun to play and gives you an opportunity to have a relaxing and enjoyable round.
