Vaaler Creek Golf Club Stay & Play Review

During our research for a trip to explore the Texas Hill Country, we discovered a hidden gem of a golf course with a fantastic stay and play package. which opened for play in June 2009 is a fun track that plays through the rolling hills of the new Rocking J housing development just south of Blanco. It is a visually stunning and unique course that will challenge the accomplished players yet offer a fun round for the rest of us want-to-be's. And the stay and play accommodations are some of the best and at a very reasonable price.

Living and dining room at Vaaler Creek Stay & PlayIn conjunction with the building of the this fantastic golf course, the Tuscany Heights Condominiums were built overlooking the tee box of the 10th hole from the front of the complex and across the creek to the ninth green out the back side. The condo complex is three stories and home to a very large three bedroom penthouse and four two and three bedroom condos that are currently available for overnight stays as a part of the Vaaler Creek Stay & Play package. We were shocked and pleasantly surprised when we opened the door and started exploring our three bedroom condo.

As we wondered through each room, we uttered a number of "Wows." We thought that we might be in the wrong place - this didn't look like most of the golf stay and plays we have enjoyed. It looked more like a brand new designer showcase model home with upscale and richly appointed decorations and furniture.

We thought that we had mistakenly wondered into some rich persons condo! And we weren't going to leave since the key worked to the front door and we loved the place.

Master bedroom at Vaaler Creek's stay and playPictures and art that we would have loved to have in our house, flat screen TVs, top of the line appliances, plus comfortable and expensive furniture were found through out our three bedroom two bath home for a night. We arrived at our condo late in the evening after playing 36 holes of golf in Boerne (Tapatio Springs Resort) and Comfort (Buckhorn) and then stuffing ourselves with some good Mexican food and a couple outstanding margaritas in Boerne, but when we saw the patio, we knew we had to finish off a fun day with a few beers and a round of dominos on the patio's wrought iron furniture. And before turning in, we couldn't resist a soaking in the jacuzzi tub in the master bed room which really helped loosen the muscles and set the stage for a good nights sleep. It's been a long time since I slept as well as I did that night - the temperature was just right, the ceiling fan didn't flutter or click, and the bed and comforter were heavenly. The next morning, I stuck my head under the covers and got the name of the mattress and pillows - we need one those mattresses for our house.

Our condo had a huge master bedroom and bathroom with a queen bed and flat screen, two other bedrooms with twin beds, a large well stocked kitchen, and a great room with comfy furniture, a glass top game table, dinning table, and flat screen with direct TV service. Vaaler Creek is building a pool near the pro shop which will be fantastic when it is completed in the later part of 2010.

Most rentals have very cheap and inexpensive utensils, cookware, and appliances - like what you might find at Goodwill or maybe Walmart. That's not the case at Vaaler Creek's Stay & Play condos. The appliances and utensils in the kitchen were close to top of the line, in good condition and plentiful, and were everything we needed to cook up some great golfer grub to get us ready for our round.

Vaaler Creek poolSince I worked up a sweat cooking breakfast, a dip in the pool was just what I needed to get ready for a round of golf. After a good nights sleep in a great condo, a good breakfast, and a refreshing dip in the pool, we wondered "if the course be up to the same standards" so we stepped out our front door to check out the 10th hole.

Whoa, what a beautiful and challenging looking hole - a 511 yard par 5 with a split fairway with the higher left side fairway looking a little wider and safer while the lower side required a carry over water to a narrow landing zone which was closer to the uphill green! After seeing that monster we got excited and immediately went to the range to help us decide how we might play that hole - could we hit them long and straight enough to risk the shorter route to the green?

The course is aesthetically pleasing and has a very memorable layout that will challenge the avid golfers from the back tees and is manageable for the rest of us. Vaaler Creek Golf Course will throw a little bit of everything at us as it meandered through some beautiful Texas Hill Country - dog legs, forced carries, elevated tee boxes and greens, water, strategically placed bunkers, tight approaches, and more. There are some pinched landing areas off the tee boxes, some tough approach shots, and the greens have both slope and undulation. What a fun track! After your round or during lunch, it's hard to resist spending some time with a burger or cold drink on the huge deck overlooking the pond.

We can't wait to find an excuse to take advantage of this fun and upscale Hill Country Stay & Play again. We highly recommend you gather some friends, family, or golfing buddies and head to Blanco for a day or more. The prices are reasonable and the greens are a steal as a part of the Stay & Play. You best hurry and make a reservation, the Condos are available for sale and may not be available for rent once they are sold.

Have fun.
