What a pleasant surprise - a fantastic golf course and an excellent golf stay and play package in Kingsland, Texas. If you're not familiar with Kingsland it's a small town (population of 6030) 20 miles southeast of Llano and 65 miles north west of Austin. Kingsland is best known for it's location on the Llano and Colorado Rivers, which feed into and create Lake LBJ.
I would never expect that such a small town could support such a fantastic golf course. Lighthouse Country Club is a privately owned golf golf course that in some respect competes with 3 top rated courses at nearby Horseshoe Bay. We've played Lighthouse Country Club several times over the last few years and every time we've played Lighthouse Country Club the conditions have been close to perfect, the greens have been fast and true, and the fees have been very reasonable for such a quality course. Better yet the layout is outstanding with some fun, unique, and interesting holes. Here is a link to Texas Outside's review of Lighthouse Country Club - it's well worth a long drive to play this course which made our list of the Best Public Courses in Texas. and is also rated 5 Stars by Golfadvisor.
If you're going to drive an hour or more to play Lighthouse, why not take advantage of the golf stay and play package at Lighthouse Landing and enjoy an overnight stay and a couple or three rounds of golf. Lighthouse Landing is located in back of the 17th green and it' home to four golf stay and play rentals with two condominiums each. The condos are very well done and nicely appointed and each condo has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living and dining area, a well stocked kitchen, a washer and dryer, a small outdoor patio, wi-fi, and a two car garage. There are a couple different golf stay and play options, but I would recommend the stay and play golf package that includes two nights, a cart, and two rounds of golf - you'll want to play this course at least twice! Check out the golf stay and play options and pricing at Lighthouse Landing.
If you have an RV, North Point Landing RV Park is owned by the same people who own the golf course and Lighthouse Landing. The RV park overlooks a couple of fairways on the back nine. There are 24 full hook-up sites plus restroom facilities. Lighthouse Country Club also has a golf stay and play package. Check out our mini review of North Point Landing to learn more about the RV park.
The two main reasons to come Kingsland are superb golf and a great lake. Bring your boat, kayak, or other water toys and enjoy one of the best lakes in Texas. Lake LBJ is one of the few constant level lakes in Texas and it's perfect for cruising by some huge beautiful homes, wakeboarding, tubing, or just dropping an anchor and swimming or fishing. Where the Llano River and Colorado River converge is the party place on Lake LBJ and there are always lots of boats anchored on this sand bar. A boat ramp is less that 10 minutes from Lighthouse. Check out our Lake LBJ map with things to do and a link to our review of Lake LBJ.
If you don't have a boat, Splash Boat Rental is just around the corner from Lighthouse and they rent pontoon boats, jet skis, and ski boats. Make sure you stop by Boat Town Burger Bar (5 minutes from Lighthouse Landing) for drinks, good burgers, music on the grass patio, and a great swimming area for kids. After you've mastered Lighthouse Country Club (good luck on that!), there are several other good courses within an hour - use this map to locate a course near KIngsland and read Texas Outside's review of each of the courses.
If you have time there are several wineries in the area, a couple good breweries in Marble Falls, some good restaurants in Marble Fall, and Longhorn Caverns which is only 20 minutes away.
Have fun and hit 'um straight.
