Old Settlers Music Festival Pictures
In April 2018 we attended the 31st annual Old Setter's Music Festival. This was the 11th Old Setter's Music Festival that we have attended and we've loved them - each year it seems to get a little better but every time the music has been top notch from artists are the US, Canada, and even Ireland. Read our review of Old Setter's Music Festival to find out more about why we think Old Setter's Music Festival is one of the best, if not the best festivals in Texas. Here are our top 5 reasons why we continue to go to Old Settlers:
Camping at Old Settler's Music Festival - Camping is right across the road from the entrance to the music stages and the campground is always fun with pickin' around the fire until the very early hours of the morning, lots of get-togethers with fellow campers, plenty of laughs, and the smell of some good cooking. Campsites aren't assigned and you can carve out a spot for you and your friends under the trees. Porta Potties, water, and generators are spread throughout the camping area.
And there were six safari tents for rent and several RV rental companies had up the RVs and travel trailers for their renters. Music fans camp in everything from hammocks to tents to converted school buses or old VW campers and more; big tents are set up pickin' and socializin'; annual returnees have names for their group; and the campground is always alive with activity and people meandering from campsite to campsite to make new friends and reacquaint with friends from past festivals. A Good Time For All.
You'll always find some pickin' and singin' in the campground from 9 AM to just before the sun rises. And anyone is welcome to pull up a chair or plop in one of the unused chairs, have a beer, and join in the singin' and pickin'.
The Music at Old Settler's Music Festival
- the music is unbelievable with everything from bluegrass, folk, country, rock, Zydeco, newgrass, Celtic, reggae, and lots more. This year there were four stages - the Black's BBQ Main Stage, the Bluebonnet Stage, the stage in the campground, and the Camp Shh-Times where the music started after the last performance on the main stage and went from 1 to 4 AM! What makes it fun is you can get up close to all the stages or sit back and relax on your blanket or in your lawn chair and enjoy the music. See our review of Old Settler's Music Festival
to see the line-up and pictures of the extremely talented artists. One of the things I find unique and interesting is the wide variety of instruments.
- Old Settler's Music Festival Fans - the fans who attend Old Setter's Music Festival are fun, friendly, outgoing, and they truly love music and good times and dancing. It's a very eclectic group of kids, hippies old and young, and everything in between. They make Old Setter's Music Festival truly unique. And of the outfits are also interesting and unique.
Saturday afternoon we got light to heavy showers for about an hour, but the music never stopped and fans never left. The grounds were a sea of umbrellas, raincoats, and more to keep somewhat dry.
Old Setter's Music Festival Kids - this festival is very kid friendly and there are lots of them from new borns to teens - all enjoying the music, dancing, chasing bubbles, and having fun on all of the Old Setter's Music Festival kids activities some of which included music workshops, face painting, pony rides, and more.
Old Settler's Music Festival Staff & Vendors -
the staff and the hundreds of volunteers at Old Settler's Music Festival are fantastic (fun, helpful, friendly) and make this a very well run festival and enjoyable for all of us - our thanks go out to all of you. Most festivals have a few food and merchandise vendors but Old Setter's Music Festival has more vendors and they are much better than other music festivals - you won't go hungry here.
Our thanks to Jean Spivey (executive director), the board of directors, all the fun fans, the friendly staff, and the talented artists for making this one of the best music festivals in Texas. Can't wait until next year!
