McKinney Texas was settled in 1845 and was named after Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. For 2006, the North Central Texas Council of Governments estimated McKinney's population at 102,853. The US Census Bureau listed McKinney as the nation's fastest growing city among cities with more than 50,000 people from 2000 to 2003 and again in 2006.
