Surfside Beach & Things To Do In Surfside Beach

Surfside BeachSurfside Beach Texas is loaded with fun things to see and do. Situated on the Gulf of Mexico near Freeport Texas, Surfside Beach is only 2.2 square miles and the 2010 census listed 482 full time residents on this small island called "Follett's Island." The Intercoastal Canal forms the northern border and a toll bridge at San Luis Pass connects the island to West Beach on Galveston Island. The Jetty Waterway provides easy access to the Gulf of Mexico.

In 1821 the schooner Lively landed and thirty-eight men, who would be the first of Stephen F. Austin's many colonists, set foot on  land that would soon become Velasco - which is now Surfside Beach. Santa Anna was held prisoner here when the town was called Velasco.

Surfside Beach is home to some of the best fishing along the Texas Gulf Coast and you'll find canoeing and kayak trails, bird watching, crabbing, nearby golfing, and pristine beaches which are both driving beaches and for pedestrians only.
