Tyler offers a number of fun things to see and do, here are some Texas Outside's favorites things to do when visiting Tyler:
Golf - there are several good public courses in and around Tyler. Our favorites include: Pine Dunes, Oak Hurst, and Garden Valley. Check out the golfing section of Texas Outside to find Tyler golf courses and read reviews of some of the courses.
Camping - just outside the Tyler city limits is Tyler State Park, a Texas Outside Top 10 park. South of town are a number of private campgrounds on Lake Palestine - try Lake Palestine Campground and Lodge, or Palestine Pines. Check out the camping and parks section of Texas Outside
Bed & Breakfast - just south of Tyler is the Duck Inn B&B, a nice 4 bedroom B&B right on the shore of Lake Palestine or try Keiperlsol Estates Vineyards and Winery which has a B&B and excellent restaurant about 15 miles south of town.
Lake Palestine - boat, fish, ski, or cruise this 25,000 acre lake just south of Tyler, click here to read the Texas Outside review of Lake Palestine
Bike or Hike - Tyler State Park has 15 miles of some excellent and challenging mountain bike trails and very scenic hiking trails around the lake
Nightlife - we had a real struggle trying to find some fun places because everyone we ask either gave us a puzzled look or recommended one of three places - we were looking for a great setting, good live music, lively and friendly crowd - here are some nightspots that we know about:
Ricks on the Square nice patio but no music during the winter
Old Grande Pub - we had a good time here with a great dinner, live music upstairs and another band for the younger crowd downstairs
Jakes downtown
Electric Cowboy
Half Moon Gill & Pub - south of town in Gresham, this is a fun funky hole-in-the wall type bar with a friendly local crowd, bar food, live bands, video games, and pool
