Casino Del Sol Resort Golf Stay & Play Review

Casino Del Sol ResortOn a golfing vacation to Tucson, Scottsdale, and Palm Springs we stayed a couple nights at Casino Del Sol Resort and it is heads and tails above any other resort casino that we have ever stayed in! Casino Del Sol Resort is located about 15 minutes from downtown Tucson and the Tucson Airport but you'll feel like you're isolated in the secluded mesquites of the high desert and surrounded by some rugged and beautiful mountain ranges. Part of what makes this Resort special is it has seven restaurants and five bars, a state of the art conference center, a spa, a beautiful Oasis pool and bar, two vibrant casinos with over 1300 slots as well as other games of chance, 215 luxurious rooms and suites, an outstanding outdoor amphitheater, a fitness center, and an award winning golf course. And we're not the only ones who think that Casino Del Sol Resort is one of the best, not only in Arizona but also in the United States - the Resort has earned the Forbes Travel Guide Four Star Award, AAA Four Diamond status, Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor, and the 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Wine Spectator award for the PY Steakhouse. Below are the reasons why we love Casino Del Sol Resort.

The Award Winning Golf Course at Casino Del Sol

Sewailo Golf CourseA short walk out the front door of the Resort is one the best golf courses in Arizona - Sewailo Golf Course. Sewailo means "flower world" in the Pascua Yaqui language and the course is like a desert oasis as it blends the native landscape with picturesque lakes and mountain views, flowing streams, cascading waterfalls, and colorful landscaping - all of which creates an oasis effect and an amazing golf experience. To complement the natural desert landscape more than 30,000 plants and native flowers were added to the landscape - Texas mountain laurel, weeping willows, palo verde, mesquite and flowering evergreen.

As the course winds seamlessly through the gently rolling terrain you'll find unforgettable holes, no two of which are the same; lots of strategic shot making opportunities; superb conditions from tee to green; plenty of doglegs both left and right; huge treacherous bunkers; ponds and creeks waiting for your golf balls; forced carries over the desert, washes, and lakes and creeks; minor elevation changes; and demanding green complexes. The course is challenging but it's very fair and there are seven yardages to choose from. Don't miss an opportunity to play this course. Here is a link to our review of Sewailo Golf Course which we rated a 9.8 out of 10!

The Casino at Casino Del Sol

We're not big gamblers but we do enjoy spending some time in a casino playing some craps, blackjack, and the slots plus having a few drinks and listening to the live music and enjoying some good food. And from our perspective, Casino Del Sol is one of the best casinos that we've ever visited. Normally when we walk into a casino it's humid and smoky, the gamblers are older and seem to be in a trace and not having fun losing their welfare checks, and the atmosphere is somewhat depressing.

Blackjack Table at Casino Del SolNone of that was true when we visited the casino at Casino Del Sol. The air seemed fresh and clear, the games of chance were filled with a younger fun loving crowd, and the vast majority of the gamblers seemed to be having a good time. There was laughter in the air mixed with the cha-ching cha-chang, beeps and buzzing of the slots. Even the dealers and pit bosses seemed to be having fun - they were smiling and laughing and interacting with their players instead of dealing like a robot with no expressions as they waited for their shift to end. On a couple games we watched that we weren't familiar with, the dealers took the time to explain the rules to us and then high fived us when we won our first bet.

Normally when we walk into a casino it's decor is drab and boring and somewhat depressing - that's not the case at Casino Del Sol. The ceilings and walls are decorated like a small village in Italy or France with street lights, trees, false front buildings with balconies, and a sky that's a beautiful pale blue or a colorful sunset. It communicates a welcome and warm feeling.

Poker at Casino Del SolWe also noticed that Casino Del Sol has some unique one-off table games that seem like they might increase your odds of winning - like Casino War, Crazy 4 Poker, Straight Jack Side bet, or War Blackjack. Plus we were able to win tickets for a drawing or points based on our spending that were good for meals at one of the restaurants, spa treatments, gas at the Del Sol Marketplace, or merchandise at the gift or beverage shops - lots of people were walking around with six packs of beer or soda from their winnings.

Slots at Casino Del SolCasino Del Sol has over 1300 slots and a variety of blackjack games, craps, poker, and bingo. The Casino also has seven restaurants, five bars, and live entertainment. We enjoyed a couple good meals, part of a playoff football game and drinks in the lobby bar, and best of all we entertained ourselves at the tables and slots for several hours and won enough to buy a six pack of beer before wobbling off to bed.

Accommodations at Casino Del Sol

Casino Del Sol has 215 luxurious guest rooms and suites in a ten story hotel that overlooks the pool, desert, golf course, and mountain ranges. We stayed in a 420 square foot king room with a beautiful view of the pool and golf course and a stunning sunset at night. The king sized Serta Presidential bed with Egyptian cotton triple sheets and plush comforters was perfect after golf, drinking, eating, and gambling and it was really hard to leave in the mornings! Our room included: a work area, Keurig coffee maker, small refrigerator, a safe, 42" flat screen HDTV, and large bathroom.

In addition to King and Queen guest rooms Casino Del Sol has 900 square foot suites with a master bedroom and living area with a 55" HDTV, executive desk, wet bar, and a lot of other exclusive appointments. Or you can go all out and stay in the Sky Level for "a heightened-awareness of luxury and comfort." Some of what you'll experience with the Sky Level includes: VIP parking, signature mattress and luxurious Italian Frette bedding (I don't have a clue what that is but it sure sounds fancy!) plus upgraded pillows and towels, glass enclosed travertine tile showers with rain down shower heads, 47" HDTV in the bedroom, and lots more.

Dining at Casino Del Sol

Tequila FactoryOne of the other things we liked about Casino Del Sol is the variety of dining options (seven restaurants) with very reasonable prices (unlike a lot of other resorts) and the five different bars. Lets start with the bars - the Paradiso Bar & Lounge is the place to go for live music and a variety of frozen drinks, craft beer, and wine or cocktails; if you like tequila then check the 130 different brands which are displayed on a moving overhead conveyor belt past your table at Tequila Factory Bar; our first stop was the lobby bar called Prema to catch the last quarter of the playoff game and meet a couple who happened to be from Houston; and the other bars include Zeboz in the middle of the gaming action, Oasis at the pool, or the bar at PY Steakhouse.

During our stay we had fun sitting at the bar and enjoying the wide variety of Asian and contemporary Chinese food that Ume offers - some of which includes soups, sushi, sashimi, traditional chicken/duck/beef/seafood Chinese dishes, specialty rolls, pan fried noodles, and lots more. We had two great breakfasts at Moby's, a beach-themed diner which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And of course we had to have lunch at the Fiesta Buffet which has lots of choices from soups and salads to pizza, BBQ, Chinese, pasta, burgers, and more plus plenty of dessert choices.

We missed the award winning PY Steakhouse, the StreetScape Deli, the family recipes that create the signature dishes of old Mexico at Tequila Factory, and the tacos, burritos, and Quesadillas at Abuelita's Aquaria.

Casino Del Sol Amenities

Casino Del Sol Fitness CenterAfter all that eating and drinking one of the amenities at Casino Del Sol that I couldn't find time to use was the fitness center and it would be fantastic to follow that up with a massage at the Spa. The Hiapsi Spa has a number of treatments (from body scrubs to facials to massages or body treatments) that were created to leave you "relaxed, renewed, and rejuvenated."

The pool at Casino De SolWe also didn't have time to enjoy the Oasis Pool but we checked it out and it's stunning - towering palm trees swaying in the breeze next to a beautiful pool with several water features and sprawling pool deck with cabanas, a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub, a bar and grill, a splash pad, and comfortable pool furniture.

AVA ampitheater at Casino Del SolCasino Del Sol is also home to the 5000 seat AVA (Anselmo Valencia Tori) Amphitheater which is one of the most beautiful entertainment destinations in Southern Arizona and the venue for a wide variety of events and music festivals with acts like Van Halen, Daddy Yankee, Toby Keith, Gwen Stefani, Alejandro Fernandez, Luis Miguel and The Scorpions.

For wedding, reunions, and corporate events the Casino Del Sol Conference Center offers more than 65,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space for events up to 2000 guests.

Bottom Line

Casino Del Sol is now our favorite resort! It just doesn't get any better than the excellent golf course, very reasonable rates, good service, variety of options for dining, the friendly casino, and the fun ambience.
