During the winter months Yuma is home to several thousand snowbirds and retirees seeking a warm place to spend the winter and apparently they all like to golf. As such, from November to May, all of the Yuma courses stay very busy and the pace of play can be excurciating! And the rates are a lot higher than in the summer months when it's over 100 in the shade, if you can find any.

Cocopah RV & Golf Resort

Yuma, AZ

Texas Outside's Review

Texas Outside Rating - 6.2

.Cocopah RV & Golf Resort is home to over 800 RV and park model sites full of snowbirds and retires and an 18 hole par 72 golf course. The golf course is flat and the holes are pretty much straight in front of you. If you can overlook the RVs and park models that the course plays through you'll notice the Colorado River, some mesas, a mountain range, and some rich fertile farm land.

The back nine is a little more challenging and interesting with some water holes and a forced carrry over a small lake. The fairways are a tad narrow and the rough is playable but after that you'll be in an RV site. A great walking course and an opportunity to practice your game at a reasonable rate.

Desert Hills Golf Course

Yuma, AZ

Texas Outside's Review

Texas Outside Rating - 7.6

Desert Hills Golf Course has a regulation 18 hole par 72 and a nine hole par 3 executive course. We were shocked and pleasantly surprised when we played this course that is in the middle of the dry desert. Who would have thought you would find elevation changes and several water holes on a course in Yuma?

Some of holes play and down the gentle rolling terrain and during your round you'll encounter water and some forced carries, dog legs, strategically place bunkers, and some risk reward opportunities. For a City owned course, Desert Hills was in very good condition and they have some fun holes.

Mesa del Sol Golf Course

Yuma, AZ

Texas Outside's Review

Texas Outside Rating - 7.0

The front nine of Mesa del Sol was designed by Arnold Palmer and like most Palmer courses that we have played it is very golfer friendly with ample fairways and generous greens - this is a nine where you can relax and have a fun and enjoyable round.

We liked the back nine a little better - it seemed like there were more interesting and challenging holes and a couple holes that were really fun. The conditions at Mesa del Sol were not the best and from what we hear, they were worse than normal which may have been due to a broken watering main line. Still very playable and worth a round.
