Johnson Creek Marina & Floating Cabins
Phone: (888) 425-4483
Type: Floating Cabins
Last Visited: July 2007
Overall Rating: 6.2
Description: Johnson Creek Marina is located in a beautiful cove on Lake of the Pines and they rent three floating cabins in slips in their marina. The cabins are similar to houseboats and permanently berthed in the marina.
We stayed in Cabin 2 which is the largest of the cabins. Cabin 2 has a front deck with a table and two chairs and a swing. The living area is large with a small TV, table, nice leather couch and sofa. The kitchen is a little dated and the utensils are well used. There is one bedroom on the first level with a queen bed and a small bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower. Keep in mind that you basically sleeping on a boat, so the toilet is similar to a marine toilet and as such may emit a few odors.
In the living room, there is an attic ladder takes comes down from the ceiling and leads to a small upstairs room. This bedroom has a bunk bed with two doubles and a single bed. Kids will love this room. The other two cabins are berthed side by side in the marina. They are similar to Cabin 3, just not quite as large. They don't have an upper deck but do have an excellent view from their back patio.
Keeping in mind that the cabins are older and not luxurious, this can be a fun place to stay - you are sleeping on the water, can fish or swim from the cabin, and your boat is tied next to your bedroom and Lake of the Pines is a fabulous lake. If you don't have a boat, Johnson Creek Marina rents picnic barges, pontoon boats, and jet skis. They also have ice, gas, bait, and a few basic groceries. These cabins are popular, so book your reservation early.

Overall Rating: 7.8
Description: Pine Shadows is a very nice two bedroom home in a beautiful and peaceful cove on Lake of the Pines. This brick house on a large pine covered lot has over 100 feet of shoreline on the lake and the cove is perfect for skiing, fishing, or swimming.
Pine Shadows has two bedrooms - the master bed room with a bathroom has a queen and a double bunk bed, both of which are very comfortable. The master bedroom also has access to the deck. Other sleeping arrangements include a bedroom with a queen, futon in the living room, and kids bunks in a room with the washer and dryer.
The house is furnished with livable furniture and the dining room has a game table and pool table. You will also find a TV in the living room with a Nintendo, TVs in the bed room, movies for the VCR/DVD, games, and more.
Out the back door is a wood deck with chairs and a table, double swing, gas grill, and a nice view of the lake. In the front circular driveway (offering plenty of parking) is a basketball hoop.
The lake is a hundred yards from the back deck. There is a long dock for boat parking, fishing, or sitting and enjoying the scenery. The shoreline is grass and dirt and good for swimming or parking the boat.
This is a great place to stay - check out their website and book a reservation. The owners are very accommodating.

Keep in mind that something may have changed since this review was completed - conditions may have been upgraded or may have deteriorated, rates most likely have gone up, water levels gone down, and lots of other things may have changed. Our intent is to give you an overview to help you select a place to stay, have a general idea of what you're getting into. You should talk to the property owners/mangers and check out the website before you leave.
We rate rentals on a 1 to 10 scale (5 is average, 10 is perfect) based on the following:
- location - proximity to the lake, ease of getting to the rental or resort by boat and car, and the general area
- staffing and service - is the staff helpful, friendly, and dedicated to making your stay pleasurable. If the rental is a house, we base this rating on talking to or from meeting the owner
- nearby activities - when you stay here, what's nearby to see and do and are there some good places to eat and party
- cleanliness and attention to detail - the place doesn't have to be immaculate, but we would like it neat and clean
- condition - is everything brand new or was it built in the 20's and has been heavily used since then
- amenities - outside of a bed for sleeping, what else is there to keep us busy on the property
- beauty - do we have view of the lake or the back of a building
- peace and quite - are we communicating with nature or listening to big rigs cruising the freeway and trains going up and down the tracks
- rates and value - is this rental going to cost us a years salary or is it a real bargain - for what you get is it a good value or a rip off
- how equipped - how well equipped is this lake rental - if appropriate, does it have knives and forks, coffee maker, phone, TV, pots & pans, linens, soap, and other creature comforts or just a small bar of soap, no towels, and one pillow
