Braunig Lake RV Resort Overview:

Conveniently located on  I-37 freeway about 20 minutes south of downtown San Antonio, Braunig Lake RV Resort is a great place to stay to explore San Antonio, attend some of the nearby annual festivals, or just camp and relax for a weekend.  The park has 286 full hook-up sites and lots of amenities including a 5 acre fishing lake.

Braunig Lake RV Resort is on the I-37 frontage road which makes access to and from the Park very easy.  All of the roads within the Park are paved or crushed stone, and each site has a level parking pad.  Big rigs shouldn’t have any trouble maneuvering through the Park.  Most of the sites are open and not shaded - a few have some trees providing limited shade.

If you don’t have enough room in your RV for friends or family, then the 4 cabins are perfect or adjacent to Braunig Lake RV Resort is a hotel with 63 rooms.

Braunig Lake RV Resort is very well maintained and all of the facilities are spotless.  We also like the individual private showers which include a sink, mirror, seat, and toilet.  The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Amenities and Fun Things To Do:

Braunig Lake RV Resort has 286 full hook-up sites that are a nice mixture of pull throughs and back-ins.  All of the sites have 20, 30, and 50 AMP service and concrete level pads for parking.  Most of the sites also have a small concrete patio and 85 sites have picnic tables – more picnic tables have been ordered and the goal is to have one picnic table per site.

The sites are long enough for the big rigs and wide enough to handle slides on both sides.  Hook-ups are conveniently located near the rear of each site’s concrete pad.  The sites are all side-by-side with a small 10 to 12 foot grassy area separating them.

There are three rows of premium sites – the first row of sites front the lake and the third row (all back-in sites) has a large open field in back of it.  One of the things we liked about the premium sites is that the pull throughs also have a separate concrete pad for your tow vehicle, toad, or friend’s cars.  This extra pad makes those sites much more spacious and open.  The front row sites have a great view of the lake which is just across the driveway.

Braunig Lake RV Resort also has four cabins and is planning on adding more cabins in the near future.  Three of the cabins are one bedroom and one is two bedroom.  Each cabin has a full bathroom, well equipped kitchen, TV, and living area.  The one bedroom cabins also have a loft which would be great for kids – bring an air mattress and sleeping bag.  Best of all, each cabin has a huge patio, picnic table, and large BBQ grill.  The cabins are on the edge of the end of the lake and all have a great lake view and some trees for shade.

Some of the amenities at Braunig Lake RV Resort include:

  • a great pool and hot tub
  • free Wi-Fi and cable TV
  • a book exchange and computer for guest use
  • the Lakeside Lodge which is perfect for special events, rallies, and socials
  • Creekside Center is a smaller recreation buildiing that is great for meals, games, TV, and socializing
  • 4 horseshoe courts and two shuffleboard courts
  • laundry room
  • leash free pet area
  • dump station and propane
  • 5 acre lake with a floating fishing pier for catch and release fishing only

Braunig Lake RV Resort also hosts Friday night dinners and Saturday and Sunday breakfasts plus an Ice Cream Social on Sunday afternoons and snacks and appetizers during Sunday afternoon and Monday night football.  The meals were $5 for dinner and you got a lot for your money – for example, pork chops with potatoes, vegetables, a salad, and dessert.  Breakfast was $4 for eggs, bacon,  hashbrowns, and toast – that would cost you $30 at the Marriott!

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

We stayed at Braunig Lake RV Resort to play some golf in San Antonio and because it provides easy access to all there is to see and do in San Antonio as well as the surrounding area.  See below for some of the fun things that we like to do when visiting San Antonio.

The grandkids enjoyed catching fish in the pond and the pool area at Braunig Lake RV Resort is a perfect  place to spend some time soaking up some rays and cooling off in the pool.  And the pool is really refreshing after a competitive game of horseshoes or shuffleboard.

Cool Nearby Activities:

San Antonio is home to some fantastic golf courses which you can find on this San Antonio Golf Map – make sure you take a look at our Top 25 Favorite Texas Courses, a number of which are in San Antonio, and read our golf course reviews to help you select a great course to play.

We also love exploring San Antonio which is home to something fun to do for everyone and for all ages.  You’ll find arts and museums, amusement parks, plenty of shopping, fun nightlife, great restaurants, and lots of attractions including the famous Riverwalk and the Alamo.  Check out our list of Ten Fun Things To See And Do In San Antonio and Texas Outside's Guide to San Antonio also has fun stuff to do.

If you like water activities and fishing, Braunig Lake is just down the road and Calaveras Lake is a few minutes east of Braunig Lake RV Resort.

Several nearby towns have some fun annual festivals and Braunig Lake RV Resort is a good place to stay to enjoy these multi-day festivals.  For example, the Poteet Strawberry Festival in April is fun.

Texas Outside Campground Rating System

Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”.  Each park is rated on:

  • Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
  • Park Condition:  the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
  • Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
  • Campsites:  low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
  • Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
