All Aboard! If you are looking for something different to do with kids, how about taking them on various train ride adventures? Kids love trains, and there are several railroads around designed with little folks in mind. They can experience the excitement of the ride as well as seeing their favorite book character. It is great fun for all to experience.

Take a step back in time as you ride the rails into the picturesque Texas Hill Country!  The all-volunteer staff will make sure your trip is memorable for years to come with their outstanding service and extensive railroad knowledge.

The Austin Steam Train Association runs excursion trains every weekend from Cedar Park.  The most popular trip is the Hill Country Flyer to Burnet.  You can also ride the Bertram Flyer, a shorter excursion to a fully restored 1912 train depot.  The ever popular North Pole Flyers and Twilight Murder Mystery trains sell out quickly, so be sure to book early!

Rusk

All Aboard! Texas State Railroad offers rides behind steam engines in vintage 1920's passenger cars through the piney woods from Rusk to Palestine.

Plus they offer special event rail rides like The Polar Express, Pumpkin Patch Express, or the Long Ranger Train Ride. These special trains pay tribute to America's most beloved western heroes or Peanuts in a couple different theme rides. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. Each month brings a different event to be enjoyed by all on one of their two engines, "Puffy" the 1896 steam locomotive, which is the oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive.

Take a scenic 25-minute ride through Zilker Park on a narrow-gauge, light-rail miniature train, which takes you at a leisurely pace along Barton Creek and Town Lake. The train departs approximately every hour on the hour during the week and every half-hour on the weekend, weather permitting.
