Oak Cove Marina & RV Park Type: Camping - RV Park Texas Outside Favorite Sites: The ones near the water and boat ramp
Brief Overview: They sell bait and tackle and provide the local fishing reports. A number of Richland Chambers fishing guides launch from Oak Cove and report their results to Roline. Oak Cove is a very laid back and friendly park. Often you will find the locals, sitting in the back of the cafe playing dominoes, next to the aquarium with the infamous blue catfish (that never turned blue) and his two buddies, Tommie Turtle and Paulie Perch. Amenities and Fun Things To Do: Oak Cove also has a rental fishing and pontoon boat, RV and boat storage, 4 lane boat ramp, fish cleaning station, pier, and 16 wet slips. The small store sells some staples, bait, and limited tackle. The cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (small but good menu of catfish, chicken fried steak, and a couple other dishes plus burgers). You can also get gas, including diesel, and air. Beside hanging out at the Cafe, checking out the aquarium, or playing dominoes or cards, there is not much else to do within the park except swim or fish from the shore. You visit Oak Cove because you're here to explore the local area and the lake or to catch some big fish. Rent their boat and go fishing! A Typical Texas Outsider Day: Richland Chambers Reservoir is 43,000 acres and is good for fishing, but there isn't much else to do on the lake. The terrain is flat and there aren't any big coves for skiing or swimming. There are a number of new housing developments with lakefront property. We look for some calm water for skiing down by the dam or in a small cove just south west of the Highway 287 bridge. Watch out for stumps if you plan on boating this lake during the drought of 2006. After skiing, we typically swim, eat, and play games. If the water is up, you can boat over to Bull Frogs Restaurant and Sports Bar (just south west of the Highway 287 bridge) for lunch, diner, and music. If the water is down, you can beach or anchor the boat and walk. During the summer, Bull Frogs is pretty lively. You could bike over or take a 15 minute walk on the back roads to get there. On this trip, we drove 3 minutes from Oak Cove to get to Bull Frogs for the music (a two piece band called Curley Head) and costume party. Bull Frogs may be changing hands in 2007 - so check to verify they are still open.
Cool Nearby Activities: Corsicana is 15 miles west and you can visit Gander Mtn. for outdoor gear; the world famous Collin Street Bakery that has been baking goodies and fruitcakes (the only fruitcake that was granted the rare New York Gourmet Society Culinary Merit Award) since 1896; the Lefty Frizzell Country Music Museum; the Pearce Collections Museum; or Pioneer Village which is a restoration of houses and buildings form the mid 1800s. If you're really bored or you want to buy some lake front property, you can visit or tour some of the lake properties (ie, The Shores being promoted by former Cowboy Randy White is 500 yards down the road from Oak Cove) being developed all around Richland Chambers. North on highway 45 about 30 minutes is one of our favorites, Old Brickyard -- there is a review of this course on Texas Outsides' Golfing Texas. About 15 minutes away is Rural Shade ATV Ranch which is an 1800 acre ATV park and campground. Multiple times a year they have a number of different events like ATV mud racing. Bring your ATV and camp or stay at Oak Cove if you want a hotel room.

Oak Cove Marina has 28 motel rooms with double beds that in 2006 rented for around $60 for 2 people. Seven hotel rooms have kitchenettes and rent for an additional $6 per night. For campers, there are 9 tent sites with water and electricity and 15 RV sites with water, electricity (30 & 50 amp), cable TV, and sewer and another 14 with water and electricity. Campsites are $24 a night.
