Amenities and Fun Things To Do:
Austin Lone Star RV Resort has 154 RV sites, 8 tent sites, and 12 cabins. Over 50% of the sites are pull through and there is a combination of 30 and 50 amp. All have sewer hookups, water, grill, and picnic tables. Some of what distinguishes Austin Lone Star from other private parks is that the sites are spacious, separated by landscaping, have lighted electric outlets (very helpful when trying to plug in when it's dark), and a lot of the sites have two sewer stations to make it very easy to hook up and dump. The tent sites are also unique - each site's entrance is landscaped with tall hedges providing privacy plus there is water, electricity, and a picnic table. Austin Lone Star RV Resort has 12 cute and cozy sleeper and deluxe log cabins which sleep 4 to 6 people. The one bedroom cabins have 1 bunk bed and a queen bed, picnic table, and grill plus a small kitchen & bathroom-- most even have a swing on the front porch. The deluxe cabins have a refrig, bathroom, 2 queen beds, sleeper sofa, and shower. Prices in 2006 range from $41 to $90 per night. Some of the other amenities, a lot of which are unique to Austin Lone Star, include: heated pool and hot tub; well stocked RV and small grocery store; restaurant serving a great breakfast, free pancakes, and a Saturday night steak dinner; pool table; ice cream socials; fax and copy service; playground; volleyball court; very clean individual shower and bathrooms; free internet; 2 horseshoe pits; fenced dog run; souvenier shop; lots of accepted discounts (Passport America at 50% off, Family Motor Coach 15% off, Good Sams, TACO, etc.); secured gate entrance; guided service to your site; 73 channels of free TV; ability to order supplies online and have them delivered to your site; propane; and more. If you know of another private campground that offers all of that, please let me know! They also provide a very good information sheet that lists Austin facts, attractions, tours and excursions, nightlife, shopping venues, and recreational activities.
A Typical Texas Outsider Day:
Every time we come to Austin we experience something else to see and do. We like Austin for the music, the fun bars and excellent restaurants, the great lakes, and all the outdoor activities like golf, hiking, biking, or Frisbee golf. Cool Nearby Activities:
As mentioned above, Austin offers something for everyone - shopping, sports and recreation, nightlife, history and culture. You shouldn't get bored from a lack of things to do, in fact you need at least a week to really experience what Austin is all about. Texas Outside uses a tough rating scale and it’s difficult for a campground to get a “10”. Each park is rated on:
- Scenic Beauty: a campground that is flat with no trees or character gets a “1” and hills, lots of trees, beautiful lake site, and lush ground cover gets a “10”
- Park Condition: the cleaner, well kept, and maintained campgrounds receive high scores
- Amenities: we are looking for lots of amenities like restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, boat ramps, shelters, concession stand, rental toys, and more.
- Campsites: low scores are given for sites that are right next to each other (good for getting to know your neighbors, but not what we’re looking for when we’re camping); have no lantern holder, no water or electricity, no fire pit, no grill, or no picnic table (or it’s rotten wood); have no trees and no view; the ground cover is crushed rock (my bare feet hate that stuff!); and they require a lot of work to get your rig level.
- Things To Do: Bonus points are given for campgrounds that offer lots of fun things to do at the park or very nearby – this includes: biking, hiking, climbing, boating, entertainment, golf, swimming, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, and more
