Brief Overview: 
Twin Coves is a very nice park on a small cove on Lake Grapevine. Sites are level, spacious, with lots of trees, and most have a view of the lake. A majority of the campsites are 100 to 500 yards from the water. There are lots of things to keep you busy outside of the park and a great hiking/biking trail that runs along the lake. The shoreline is OK for swimming and boat parking.

Twin Coves is an older park but generally kept in pretty good condition. However, the restrooms and showers are not up to standards and one Texas Outside visitor said "they are more like outhouses."

Amenities and Fun Things To Do:
Twin Coves has a two lane boat ramp; 45 sites with water and/or water and electricity (30 amp only); 10 primitive sites; a playground; volleyball and horseshoes; group pavilion; swimming area; fishing dock and fish cleaning station; and a dump station. You can swim, bike, or walk over to Little Pete's for great food and music on their deck. You can enter the Northshore Trail for excellent mountain biking or hiking or to walk over Little Pete's near campsite number 45.

A Typical Texas Outsider Day:

We like to start the day with some skiing in any of the coves or down by the dam. Then cruise by some of the big houses on the north side of the lake. Find a cove or island (if the water is down like it was during the summer of 2006) for some swimming.

We like to end the day at Little Pete's -- munch on some great food (the hamburger is one of the best in Dallas!) and listen to some live music on the deck.

The next morning, stretch your legs, grab some water and get some exercise by hiking or biking the Northshore trail -- a really fun trail that winds up and down through the trees and along the shoreline. This is a 5 on the strenuous hike level and can be a 6 to 8 on the bike technical difficultly scale. Be careful, wear a helmet, and be prepared to walk your bike - there are lots of rocks, steep hills, and roots to trip you up. If you can't make the entire 9 miles, than ride or hike from the park a couple miles to Little Pete's for food and music. On the way home we'll stop and play golf. Cowboys Golf Club and Grapevine Golf Course are just 20 minutes from the campground and both are very good courses. See below for more info and how to access a review of both courses.

Cool Nearby Activities:
There is lots to do within 25 minutes of the park. You'll find some great golf at Grapevine or Cowboys or other courses. Go to the Texas Outside Golf Home Page to find reviews and ratings of both of these courses and others in the area.

Grapevine Mills Mall is very close by and you can shop at Neiman Marcus Last Call, Bass Pro Shop, Abercrombie & Fitch, Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet, and more until your wallet's empty. After shopping, eat at Love & War in Texas and listen to some outstanding country music. If the kids are old enough or you're a kid at heart, stop by Game Works.

If you don't have a boat and want to get on the water and discover the excitement and adventure of sailing, call Island Bound Sailing Academy at 817 721-4080 or 214 529-3864. Just for Fun (817 310-3000) provides boat, jet ski, and party barge rentals out of the south west end of the lake in Silver Lake Marina. Visit Gaylord Texan Hotel for sightseeing, a drink or a meal -- this place is unbelievable and they are building (mid 2006) a bar and restaurant overlooking the water.

Lake Grapevine has three different and excellent hiking, equestrian, and biking trails. You will find some good information on the trails in the Texas Outside hiking and biking section.

Make sure you stop by Little Pete's for the food, drink, and live music (Thursday and Sunday is acoustic and Friday and Saturdays are live bands). They are open year round and have an excellent sports bar with a big screen and 13 other TVs. This is a kid friendly restaurant and the kids will enjoy feeding the fish and turtles.
