Some good friends invited us to spend the weekend with them at their lake house on Lake LBJ, which is one of our favorite lakes in Texas. It took us a millisecond to say "what time should we be there!" In no time the car was loaded with beer, golf clubs, swim suits, and games.
Delaware Springs Golf course in Burnet is on the way from our house to Lake LBJ so we met our friends there for a round of golf. Delaware Springs Golf Course is a relatively straight forward layout with good conditions, reasonable rates, and no real trouble unless you miss the fairway - the tall native grass devoured five of my golf balls.. Oh, and best of all, they serve an excellent frozen Margarita! Thanks to my golf score, I had to buy the rounds which I didn't mind because the margaritas were so good! Shortly after golf, we were sitting on the deck, enjoying the view of the lake and some huge beautiful homes, sipping some more margaritas, enjoying some rousing hands of 42 dominos, and dining on some delicious pork chops with a peanut sauce. Fun day!
The next morning it was more dominos after a scrambled egg breakfast, then the ladies took a long walk though Applehead Island to marvel at the huge beautiful multi-million dollar homes, our host took a grueling bike ride, and I zoomed through the neighborhood on a jet ski - they came back tired, hot and sweaty, but I was cool and ready to roll. Wow, Applehead Island is loaded with beautiful multi-million dollar homes.
For lunch we boated over to Boat Town, which is a cool restaurant and bar on the edge of Lake LBJ in nearby Kingsland. They have a great outdoor patio, picnic tables on the grass, a swimming area, live music stage, and some good burgers. Margaritas and dominos overlooking the lake is hard to beat.
That evening we went to the Horseshoe Bay Yacht Club for dinner and music. The Yacht Club is really cool - half of the property sits on the edge of Lake LBJ with a nice sandy beach, beach chairs, and umbrellas - kinda felt like we were on a beach in Florida. The rest of the property has a restaurant, very cool black lava rock hot tub, swimming pool, and a patio on the edge of the lake. The buffet was ok and a piano player sang Beatles and Elton John songs as we ate and drank. Then it was back to the house for a night cap and to finish the domino tournament.
Before leaving to head back home, we played a round of golf on Horseshoe Bay's Ram Rock Golf Course. In addition to Horseshoe Bay Resort (which we can highly recommend) and the Yacht Club, Horseshoe Bay has four outstanding golf courses, all of which made our list of the Best Resort Courses in Texas. Ram Rock is our favorite - it's very challenging, extremely scenic, in near perfect condition, and a blast to play. Fun weekend - I hope we get invited back!
